It is time to move on from Leonys Martin

Leonys Martin has had a rough season and is struggling mightily at the plate. It is time for the Cleveland Indians to move on. The outfield of the Cleveland Indians has been a constant topic of discussion this season. While someone like Oscar Mercado is the darling of the outfield, Leonys Martin has not performed up to expectations. Martin came into the season as the Indians everyday center fielder and is not playing at a level that warrants extended play time. It is time to go in a different direction. Leonys Martin is slashing .207/.281/.347 with an OPS of .628 on the season. This is quite the lackluster performance at the plate. This is worse than Martin's career slash line of .245/.302/.367/.669 which is not even that great in the first place. Martin is striking out an alarming ...

Leonys Martin is on a hot streak

Cleveland Indians outfielder Leonys Martin has been on an absolute tear at the plate. Like many of the Cleveland Indians players, Leonys Martin got off to a slow start in 2019. Martin only had four hits in his first 27 at-bats, his batting average was an uninspiring .167. Something changed and now Leonys Martin is raking. Over the last seven days Leonys Martin is batting .429 with three home runs, one double and three runs batted in. Martin has also scored six times and reached base via walk six times. Things began to turn around when the Indians took a trip to Detroit to face Martin's former team. In that series Martin went 5-11 with two home runs, a double and three RBI's. Martin also walked three times during the weekend series with the Tigers. Cleveland was able to win two o...

Bieber dominant in Indians victory

The Cleveland Indians were backed by a strong pitching performance from Shane Bieber en route to a 4-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers. Cleveland wins the series two games to one. Cleveland took the final game of the three game series with Detroit and the Indians are back on top in the American League Central. Shane Bieber went six innings and only allowed three hits in the victory. Bieber struck out six batters as he got his first win of the season. 68 of Bieber's 105 pitches were strikes, 20 were called strikes while 13 were swinging strikes. Bieber threw first pitch strikes to 15 of the 26 batters he faced. The second-year starter was able to get ahead of Tigers batters early and often and used it to his advantage. Indians first baseman Carlos Santana continues to rake. Santana w...

Indians outfield performance in Arizona

The Cleveland Indians outfield was filled with question marks entering Spring Training and the majority of the early results so far are certainly encouraging. Although there are some not so encouraging performances in Arizona. Granted it is Spring Training and the sample sizes are small, there is some bright spots to focus on. Leonys Martin This is the ultimate feel good story. Leonys Martin saw last season end prematurely due to a life-threatening illness. There is no doubt that Martin wants to get back on the field and prove to everyone he is still capable of being a productive outfielder. In seven games Martin is slashing .474/.500/.789 with an OPS of 1.289. Martin has also displayed a bit of power, homering twice this spring. Martin has all but locked down a starting spot in the...

Indians need Leonys Martin in 2019

Cleveland Indians outfielder Leonys Martin only appeared in six games for the Tribe in 2019 before a life threatening infection ended his season Leonys Martin may be the most forgotten about outfielder on the Cleveland Indians. Martin came over in a trade from the Detroit Tigers last season and appeared in six games. While Martin was productive at the plate during those six games, a life threatening infection ended his season prematurely. Now the Cleveland Indians will lean on Martin to produce at a similar rate in 2019. During Martin's six game stint in Cleveland last year he put together a fairly impressive slash line. Granted it is from the smallest of sample sizes, but a .333/.353/.733/1.086 slash line is nothing to scoff at. Martin homered twice, drove in four runs and scored t...

Indians outfield still a work in progress

Even before the departure of Michael Brantley the Cleveland Indians outfield situation was far from enviable. Now that Brantley, Lonnie Chisenhall and Rajai Davis have new homes the team still has some work to do. Indians returning outfielders The Cleveland Indians will have Leonys Martin, Tyler Naquin and Greg Allen returning next season. There is also the uncertain status of Bradley Zimmer. Zimmer is rehabbing from shoulder surgery which originally had a recovery timeline of 8-12 months. It appears that any sort of production from Zimmer this season could be a bonus. Martin can provide modest production when in the lineup, nothing that cannot be duplicated from others currently on the roster. Naquin experienced an offensive surge before slumping and ultimately suffering a seas...
