Bieber dominant in Indians victory

The Cleveland Indians were backed by a strong pitching performance from Shane Bieber en route to a 4-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers. Cleveland wins the series two games to one.

Cleveland took the final game of the three game series with Detroit and the Indians are back on top in the American League Central. Shane Bieber went six innings and only allowed three hits in the victory. Bieber struck out six batters as he got his first win of the season. 68 of Bieber’s 105 pitches were strikes, 20 were called strikes while 13 were swinging strikes. Bieber threw first pitch strikes to 15 of the 26 batters he faced. The second-year starter was able to get ahead of Tigers batters early and often and used it to his advantage.

Indians first baseman Carlos Santana continues to rake. Santana went 3-3 with two walks and drove in two runs. With his perfect day at the plate Santana is now hitting .425 this season. Santana did get the scoring started in the top of the first with an RBI single, driving home Jake Bauers.

Leonys Martin homered for the second time in the series. This home run came in the third inning and stretched the Indians lead to two. Martin would also single in the top of the fourth to bring home Kevin Plawecki making it 3-0 Indians. Martin would go 3-4 on the day and would finish 5-11 in the series.

The final run of the game came courtesy of another Carlos Santana RBI single. Leonys Martin scored the fourth run of the game and solidified the Indians lead.

Brad Miller would go 2-4 on the day. This increases his batting average to .236. While this is still not great, this is much improved than the .111 average Miller came into the series with.
