It took longer than anyone would have liked, but the Cleveland Guardians have snapped their seven-game losing streak. Jose Ramirez, Andres Gimenez, and Josh Naylor all homered in the contest.

Gimenez’ grand slam in the third and Naylor’s two-run shot in the seventh did a lot of the heavy lifting for Cleveland. The clear the bases job from Gimenez gave the Guardians a temporary 5-4 lead while Naylor’s homer was of the game-winning variety with two innings to go.

Aaron CIvale struggled yet again, allowing six runs on seven hits in just four innings. The 26-year old Guardians right hander has allowed six runs in back-to-back starts totaling just seven innings. The only other Cleveland pitcher to allow a run(s) to score was Enyel De Los Santos. Sam Hentges, Trevor Stephan, and Emmanuel Clase all combined to allow just one hit (Clase) while striking out five in 4.1 innings.

After back-to-back sweeps at the hands of the Yankees and Angels, Cleveland found their offensive groove against the A’s. As a team, Cleveland combined for 11 hits and five walks, a breath of fresh air for the Guardians and their recent struggles. With the first win of the series under their belt, Cleveland has a chance to continue the trading sweeps pattern that has been going on for most of the season.

Shane Bieber will take the mound for the Guardians Saturday afternoon as the Athletics will trot out Cole Irvin.

The Cleveland Baseball Club avoided the three-game sweep in Kansas City by coming away with a 6-1 victory Thursday night.

It took a few tries, but the Cleveland Baseball Club managed to get a win over the Kansas City Royals in their final trip to Kauffman Stadium this season. Even though Cleveland was outhit 10-9, they managed to have three of their four hits with runners in scoring position drive in runs, while only one of Kansas City’s three hits did the same.

Shane Bieber made his final appearance of the season, allowing the one run on four hits with one strikeout in 3 innings. Logan Allen would also allow four hits in 3 innings, but no runs came across to score during his time on the mound. Sam Hentges, Anthony Gose, and Emmanuel Clase each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.

Harold Ramirez and Bradley Zimmer each drove in two runs to lead the Cleveland scoring effort. Ramirez would single twice while Zimmer doubled home a run and drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. Oscar Mercado also drove in a run with a double.

Cleveland will head to Texas for their final three games of the season as they still have a chance to finish .500 on the year

The Cleveland Baseball Club trounced the Kansas City Royals 8-3 in their final home game of the season and the last before the name change.

Monday afternoon was not supposed to be the final home game of the season for the Cleveland Baseball Club, it was supposed to be yesterday. But due to a rainout the last time the Kansas City Royals were in town, there was one last chance to see the team before they change their name to the Guardians for next season, For the fans that did show up Monday, they got to see their team win at home one last time.

Cleveland’s offensive attack was led by two former New York Mets in Amed Rosario and Andres Gimenez. Rosario was 4-5 as he drove in three runs on a RBI single, double, and a solo home run. Gimenez drove in two runs, one on a RBI double in the 2nd and another in the 8th with a sacrifice fly. Between Rosario and Gimenez they drove in five of the eight runs Cleveland scored.

In what was a showdown between brothers, it was Bradley Zimmer who got the upper hand over brother Kyle. Zimmer homered in the 8th inning as he will now have bragging rights for some time.

Cleveland called upon Cal Quantrill to start their final home game of the year and did not disappoint. Quantrill allowed three runs on six hits while striking out five over 6 innings. Cleveland’s offense combined with Quantrill’s outing was more than enough to come away with a win Monday afternoon.

Trevor Stephan, Bryan Shaw, and Emmanuel Clase handled the final three innings allowing just one hit on only 30 pitches.

Cleveland heads out on the road to close out the year, with a stop in Kansas City before heading to Texas.

Three homers power Cleveland to 4-1 win over Twins

The Cleveland Baseball Club homered three times to avoid the sweep and come away with a 4-1 win over the Minnesota Twins.

Just a few days ago the Cleveland Baseball Club’s franchise record homer streak came to an end as they lost 3-0 to the Minnesota Twins. A second straight 3-0 loss to Minnesota led to Cleveland on the brink of being swept in a four game series. This time around Cleveland not only managed to score at least one run, they managed to homer three times en route to four runs and a 4-1 victory.

Trailing 1-0 in the 3rd inning it was time for Cleveland’s offense to wake up. After Myles Straw reached on a walk, it was a mammoth blast from Franmil Reyes which gave Cleveland a 2-1 lead.

The very next inning it was Oscar Mercado’s turn to homer. Mercado took a 1-1 pitch and hit it over the wall in left.

Wanting to get in on the action, Jose Ramirez got his home run pitch and deposited into the right field seats.

The run scoring for Cleveland was only half the equation Thursday night. An impressive start from Cal Quantrill provided the opportunity to win the game. Quantrill allowed just one run, a Miguel Sano homer in the 2nd. Besides the Sano homer, Quantrill allowed three other hits while striking out five and walking two in 7.2 innings. Blake Parker finished the 8th on just four pitches while Emmanuel Clase handled the 9th to earn his 22nd save of the year.

Cleveland’s home stand continues as they begin a three game series against the Milwaukee Brewers at 7:10 P.M.

Cleveland allows just four hits in 3-0 shutout of Angels

The Cleveland Baseball Club held the Los Angeles Angels to just four hits in a 3-0 shutout in the MLB Little League Classic.

After two straight wins at home over the Angels, the Cleveland Baseball Club took their talents to Williamsport for the Little League Classic. Even a change of venue did not impact the final result as Cleveland completed the three game sweep of the Angels following a 5-1 win Saturday.

Cal Quantrill took over where Triston McKenzie left off the night before. Quantrill struck out nine while allowing two hits and two walks in 7 innings. Quantrill was rarely in trouble, and when he was he managed to get out of it. There is something to a pitcher working his way out of trouble and the fact Quantrill is showing that trait is encouraging in his progression as a pitcher.

On the other hand James Karinchak did not have the same success as Quantrill. Karinchak allowed three of four batters he faced to reach base via two walks and a single. It was a quick hook as Bryan Shaw came in to get a double-play on his second and last pitch of the game. Emmanuel Clase came on in the 9th for a relatively easy outing, only allowing an infield single to Jared Walsh while recording three outs.

Offensively things got started early as Amed Rosario continued his hot streak. After Myles Straw doubled to lead-off the inning, Rosario crushed the third pitch of his at-bat into left field to give Cleveland an early 2-0 lead.

The Straw-Rosario combo at the top of the order has been quite intriguing lately and could be the top two bats in the order next season.

Cleveland’s third run was scored in the 4th inning as Straw grounded into a fielder’s choice which allowed Austin Hedges to score.

Cleveland has an off day Monday and will return home to take on the Rangers Tuesday.

Daniel Johnson homers in 3-1 win over Twins

The Cleveland Baseball Club outfielder provided just enough for the team to come out on top over the Twins Tuesday.

Called up the day before and in need to prove that he has a spot on the big league roster, Daniel Johnson stepped up to the plate in the 5th inning already 0-1. Eager to get a hit after flying out in the 2nd, Johnson took a hack at a first pitch curveball and missed. Opening an at-bat with a off speed pitch, particularly a curveball is a risky endeavor as it can lead to a batter keying in on a fastball since it is unlikely he will see two curves in a row. That is just what happened as Johnson took a middle-in fastball on the very next pitch and hit it on to the concourse in right field.

This was one of two hits on the day for Daniel Johnson, the second of which was a lot less exciting, an infield single. However, the important aspect of his first hit it was enough to give Cleveland a win. Minnesota could only muster one run in the contest while Cleveland scored three, two of which came on Johnson’s home run in the 5th. The third run came in the 6th with Amed Rosario scoring on a Wilson Ramos sacrifice.

The story of the game was not all about Daniel Johnson and the offense. Eli Morgan took the hill to start the game and delivered an impressive performance. Morgan would allow just three hits and two walks over 6 innings, keeping the Twins off the scoreboard along the way.

Minnesota did have a chance to do some damage thanks to a shaky outing from Trevor Stephan. Stephan walked the bases loaded while failing to record an out in the 8th. James Karinchak was called into action and managed to keep the damage to a minimum, just one run scoring on a fielder’s choice. Emmanuel Clase would come in the 9th, striking out two batters to earn the save.

Cleveland defeats Detroit 7-5

The Cleveland Baseball Club came away with a 7-5 win over the Detroit Tigers after falling behind early.

Finding themselves down 5-2 in the 4th inning, things were not looking great early for the Cleveland Baseball Club. A short outing from Zach Plesac meant the team had to piece together 5 innings of pitching. Plesac allowed five runs on two hits with three walks as his struggles continue. Luckily, Cleveland scored five unanswered runs en route to a 7-5 victory.

The comeback started in the 4th with Oscar Mercado reaching on a walk. A throwing error from Tigers shortstop Zach Short resulted in Mercado on third and Owen Miller on second. Andres Gimenez would hit a sacrifice fly to bring Cleveland within two. A RBI single from Austin Hedges would make it a 5-4 game in the very next at-bat. Ernie Clement would follow with a RBI double, tying the game at 5.

In the 7th is when Cleveland would take the lead for good. Myles Straw reached on an infield single. Bradley Zimmer would step to the plate and crush a big fly to the right field stands, giving Cleveland a 7-5 lead.

James Karinchak and Emmanuel Clase would lock down the 8th and 9th innings as Cleveland came away with a series and season win over the Tigers.

Cleveland will take on the Cincinnati Reds Monday in a makeup game from earlier this season. Afterwards the Oakland Athletics come to town for a three game series.

Cleveland scores three in 10th in win over Blue Jays

Extra-innings were needed, but the Cleveland Baseball Club managed to get three across in the 10th to come away with a 5-2 victory.

The Cleveland Baseball Club and Toronto Blue Jays headed to extra-innings Monday afternoon and things did not go well for home team. Myles Straw started the inning on second and would advance on a wild pitch. Amed Rosario would drive in Straw to give Cleveland a slim one-run lead. Jose Ramirez followed Rosario and proceeded to hit a mammoth blast to extend the lead to three. It was the 23rd home run of the season for Ramirez.

Emmanuel Clase came on in the bottom of the 10th and shut the door on just 10 pitches. Cleveland would go on to win 5-2 when it was all said and done in Toronto.

Prior to the late drama, Cleveland actually got a lead early in this one. A RBI single from Harold Ramirez would drive in Straw with Rosario being thrown out at home in the top of the 3rd. The very next at-bat saw Oscar Mercado single, allowing Franmil Reyes to score on an error.

As expected, Vladimir Guerrero would tie things up with a two-run homer in the 6th. The score would remain 2-2 until the 10th.

Eli Morgan started the game and pitched well. Morgan would strike out nine over 6 innings, allowing just the two runs on five hits and one walk. James Karinchak found himself in a new role this time out following his recent struggles and would allow just one walk in the 7th. The 8th belonged to Nick Sandlin who allowed just one hit on six pitches. Bryan Shaw worked the 9th and managed to keep things all square to force extra-innings, leading to the exciting finish for Cleveland.

Cleveland and Toronto will return to playing a night game Tuesday night with first pitch scheduled for 7:07 P.M.
