Browns add seven players through draft

The Cleveland Browns certainly addressed some needs in the 2020 NFL Draft. Cleveland also made some interesting picks that could impact other players on the roster and one that may have a lesser impact than some think.

10. OT Jedrick Wills Jr.

Cleveland needed a tackle to protect Baker Mayfield and they made sure to get one in Round 1. Jedrick Wills Jr. should be the elusive replacement for Joe Thomas that this franchise has been searching for.

44. S Grant Delpit

Another area of need was the safety position, adding Grant Delpit after trading down to gain an extra pick was an excellent way to add a player and a resource for next season.

88. DT Jordan Elliott

The Browns bypassed taking an edge rusher at 74 and instead traded down in order to select Jordan Elliott. Defensive tackle just was not an immediate need at this point and the pick could have been for a player who could have been a Week 1 starter.

97. LB Jacob Phillips

The linebacker position was not entirely ignored as Cleveland added another Bayou Bengal in Jacob Phillips. Phillips should be able to compete for a starting gig with the likes of Mack Wilson and Sione Takitaki.

115. TE Harrison Bryant

This pick has been quite contentious from the start. Adding Harrison Bryant after signing Austin Hooper in free agency. It’s not one or the other that casts doubt about the future of David Njoku, it’s both.

160. C/G Nick Harris

Nick Harris could compete for the starting right guard position or could be part of a succession plan at center.

187. WR Donovan Peoples-Jones

Michigan wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones had a fairly large draft slide. There were some who believed he would go much earlier, but it seems that some of his deficiencies as a receiver kept him from being a much earlier draft pick. Peoples-Jones should be able to contribute in special teams while occasionally catching a pass.
