Monsters drop second straight game to Griffins

Things did not get much better for the Cleveland Monsters as they lost their second straight game to the Grand Rapids Griffins. All it takes is just two games for a winning streak to turn into a losing streak. That is exactly what happened to the Cleveland Monsters with their winning streak ending Tuesday and now turning into a losing streak with a 2-1 loss Wednesday. The scoring in this game echoes the order from Tuesday's game. The Monsters took an early 1-0 lead in the 2nd thanks to a power play goal from Wyatt Newpower. It was Newpower's third on the year with Dillon Simpson and Tyler Angle being credited with their sixth and seventh assists respectively. The familiarity in the scoring pattern comes after this goal. Grand Rapids scored in rapid fire fashion in the 3rd period...

Monsters win streak ends after 5-3 loss to Griffins

The Cleveland Monsters saw their six-game winning streak end as they lost to the Grand Rapids Griffins by a score of 5-3. At some point the winning streak was going to end and that point was Tuesday. The trip to Grand Rapids proved to be too much for the Monsters as they lost to the Griffins by two goals. The 3rd period ultimately proved to be the difference in the game as Cleveland entered with a slim one goal lead and things were looking up. Grand Rapids managed to score three goals in the period which would send the Monsters home with a loss. It was a power play goal and empty netter late that gave the Griffins their winning goals. Daniil Tarasov was the goaltender for the Monsters and he saved 22 of 26 shots on goal. Tarasov has been a nice surprise for Cleveland since maki...

Monsters look for fourth straight win over Rochester

The Cleveland Monsters look to continue their hot streak with a fourth straight win over the Rochester Americans and sixth overall. The Cleveland Monsters have been having a good time when squaring off with the Rochester Americans this season. Cleveland has won three of four matchups and the scores have not been particularly close. The Monsters own a 19-6 goal advantage against Rochester in their last three matchups with the Americans 7-3 win at the beginning of the season being a standout. The last two games for the Monsters were a 9-2 thrashing of Rochester and a 5-3 win that was sealed with a late empty net goal. There is the possibility that pendulum swings back favoring Rochester in their second to last matchup of the season. If there is a team that could get the advantage of ...

Will Lochead signs PTO with Monsters

The Cleveland Monsters have signed 23-year old defenseman to a professional tryout contract the team announced Thursday. This is the time of year where teams in the AHL such as the Cleveland Monsters sign players to professional tryout contracts. That is just what the team did Thursday after agreeing to a deal with defenseman Will Lochead. Will Lochead has some previous experience in the American Hockey League, playing the 2019-20 season with Springfield Thunderbirds. During that year Lochead finished with 4 points (1 goal, 3 assists) in 28 games. Last season was another 28-game campaign for Lochead, but it was with the Allen Americans of the ECHL. All 5 of Lochead's points in the East Coast Hockey League last season came on assists.

Monsters come away with 5-3 win over Rochester

The Cleveland Monsters managed to win their fifth consecutive game with their victory in Rochester over the Americans. Things were not looking great for the Cleveland Monsters with 4 minutes left to play in the 1st period. Rochester held a 2-0 lead and Cleveland seemed to be scrambling for answers, that is when everything changed. The Monsters rattled off four straight goals into the 3rd period en route to their fifth straight win. Dillon Simpson got things started with a power play goal for the Monsters with just two minutes left in the 1st period. Simpson was assisted by Thomas Schemitsch (8) and Liam Foudy (7). It was a scoreless 2nd period for both teams, but the 3rd period provided the jolt the Monsters needed. Tyler Sikura was assisted by Carosn Meyer less than a minute...

Monsters destroy Americans 9-2

The Cleveland Monsters continued their hot streak as they absolutely demolished the Rochester Americans by a score of 9-2. Normality was not the word that can be used to describe the past few days for the Cleveland Monsters. Cleveland came into this weekend winners of 7 of 9, but a postponed game provided a bit more difficulty. Add in the subtractions of Kole Sherwood, Gavin Bayreuther, and Andrew Peeke, and things could have gone awry. Luckily for the Monsters nothing that happened over the past few days impacted them at all. There are not many times that a team scores 9 goals, a new Monsters franchise record, but is just what happened for the Monsters Saturday night in Rochester. The 1st period was back and forth, but after that it was all Cleveland. The Monsters controlled the ov...
