Browns acquire Deion Jones from Atlanta

The Cleveland Browns made a trade with Atlanta in an effort to bolster their defense.

It was not long after Sunday’s loss that the Browns knew something had to change on defense. Cleveland agreed to terms with the Falcons to acquire linebacker Deion Jones from Atlanta.

Jones is yet to play this season after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery, but is eligible to be designated for return at any time.

It is hard to imagine that Deion Jones will have to wait a long time before returning. The Browns defense is a disaster and Jones is a clear upgrade. Jones has shown to be more than capable of accumulating tackles (137 total last season) even though his performance in pass coverage has been less than stellar. The soon to be 28-year old has allowed 106 completions on 138 targets the last two seasons. Hopefully the Browns will use Jones in a different manner than how he was used in Atlanta and not put him in situations where he is responsible in pass coverage on a regular basis.

Browns blow it against Chargers

The Cleveland Browns squandered a two-touchdown lead as they lost the visiting Los Angeles Chargers 30-28.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. It is beyond comical at this point when it comes to the ways the Cleveland Browns find ways to lose. Cleveland was spotted 14 points early by the visiting Los Angeles Chargers and even held a 21-17 lead at the half. With momentum clearly in the Chargers favor, a very predictable second half played out as as Cleveland was outscored 13-7 and now sit at 2-3 on the year. At some point team personnel need to be held accountable and not just be the recipient of a stern talking to.

Los Angeles came into this game averaging just 64 yards per game on the ground and this lackluster unit managed to gash the Browns defense. Very few teams are capable of outrushing Cleveland’s offense (238-213) and the Chargers should not be one of them. Cleveland’s defensive tackle group is one of the worst in the NFL and this is a major problem. Opponents will continue to exploit their interior as they manage to neutralize Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney on the outside.

It simply does not matter how well the Browns play this season, they are just not a good team. This goes beyond just players, but coaches and front office as well. Not being adequately prepared and looking completely lost at times has been their trademark so far this season. Kevin Stefanski can say all he wants about cleaning things up, but until it happens his message will fall on deaf ears.

There is saying things and then there is doing things. Post game statements are completely worthless and until stuff changes on the field it is more than fair to question them.

Greedy Williams not expected to play

The Cleveland Browns cornerback is not expected to play.

There was some hope that Greedy Williams would make his return to Cleveland’s secondary after returning to practice earlier this week but it was not meant to be. The Browns cornerback is not expected to play in Week 5 when they take on the Los Angeles Chargers.

Without Greedy Williams it will make slowing down Los Angeles’ high powered passing game that much more difficult. Even if Williams were to play it would not be an easy task shutting down Justin Herbert. It will be up to the rest of Cleveland’s secondary to pull together and play at a high level. Getting on the same page and avoiding coverage lapses will be key if they are going to have a chance.

Nick Chubb is simply incredible

The Cleveland Browns running back is currently outpacing 25 teams in one particular area.

Nick Chubb is the best running back in football, but that is not news. The Cleveland Browns running back’s 459 rushing yards this season is second in the NFL currently, but that is only part of the story. Chubb has 15 runs of 10 or more yards this season which is more than 25 other teams.

Cleveland is a run heavy offense which also gives a sizable amount of touches to Kareem Hunt, also known as the best second running back of any team in football. Add in that the team is currently quarterbacked by the serviceable Jacoby Brissett while they wait for Deshaun Watson to return from suspension it only makes this more impressive. Nick Chubb being productive on game day is simply inevitable and there is no stopping him. Opposing teams just hope to slow him down somehow and most of the time that really does not do all that much.

Browns – Chargers final injury report

This is the final injury report prior to Sunday’s contest between the Cleveland Browns and Los Angeles Chargers.

There is a little bit of clarity in regards to who is and who is not available for Sunday. It appears that the Browns will have the services of Myles Garrett with the potential that his two defensive line mates (Jadeveon Clowney, Taven Bryan) could also make their return to the starting lineup. Clowney did make his return to practice and it certainly appears that he should be available. Los Angeles will be without Keenan Allen which will give Cleveland one less target in the passing game to worry about.

The Chargers are favored going into this game and that is not much of a surprise. Justin Herbert has been locked in to start the season and the Browns defense has not been strong. One thing the Browns learned in their loss to Atlanta is that a talent gap can close leading to the team that is favored coming up short. Like Cleveland, Los Angeles is 2-2 on the year and they are far from a healthy bunch. If they were just missing Allen it would be one thing, but it is Allen, Rashawn Slater, and Joey Bosa. Perhaps that could be just enough to tip the scales in the Browns favor once the game actually begins.

Jadeveon Clowney returns to practice

The Cleveland Browns defensive end has returned to practice ahead of Sunday’s game against Los Angeles.

Jadeveon Clowney could be making his return to the Cleveland Browns defense this weekend. The former number one overall pick has returned to practice and that is a good sign for a defensive unit that has struggled. Clowney said earlier this week that he hopes to play Sunday and it appears that he is trending in that direction.

Jadeveon Clowney is the latest member of the Browns defensive front to return to practice as Myles Garrett came back earlier this week. Having both back will be a big boost to Cleveland’s defense as they are set to take on the high powered Chargers on Sunday. Disrupting the rhythm of Justin Herbert is priority number one and Cleveland’s pass rushing duo are more than capable of doing just that.

Jadeveon Clowney hopes to play Sunday

The Cleveland Browns defensive end is still hoping to play this weekend against Los Angeles.

Jadeveon Clowney has missed the past two games with an ankle injury and his absence was felt in the loss to Atlanta. As this week’s game approaches the former number one overall pick is still not present during the open portion of practice.

Even though Clowney did not participate during the open portion he still has hopes to play against the Chargers.

The Browns defense are going to need Jadeveon Clowney in addition to Myles Garrett if they are going to have any chance of slowing down the Chargers offense. Justin Herbert currently leads the NFL in passing and being sacked only four times has played a factor. It will be up to Cleveland’s defensive front to pressure Herbert and disrupt his rhythm. Having Clowney and Garrett will go a long way towards accomplishing just that.

Browns bring back Pharaoh Brown

The Cleveland Browns have brought back former tight end Pharaoh Brown after his release from the Houston Texans.

The Cleveland Browns have added some depth to their roster by bringing back former tight end Pharaoh Brown. Brown was released by the Houston Texans Tuesday.

Cleveland is currently down a tight end due to Jesse James landing on injured reserve. Considering Miller Forristall is someone who travels between practice squad and active roster, adding another tight end to the mix is a no-brainer. Even if Brown does not even play this week or appear in a Browns uniform it is good to have depth in case of emergency. Cleveland found out the hard way this past week on the defensive side of the ball and would not want to find themselves in a similar position offensively against the Chargers on Sunday.

Pharaoh Brown appeared in three games for Houston this season, catching seven of 10 targets for 72 yards and three first downs. Brown last played for Cleveland in 2019, finishing with two receptions for 27 yards in nine games.

Myles Garrett returns to practice

A little over a week after a serious car accident Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett returned to practice Wednesday.

To say that Garrett was ready for practice is an understatement. It was clear throughout last week that Garrett was doing everything he could to play but it was not in his best interest at the time.

Should Myles Garrett be able to play on Sunday it would be a welcome return for the Browns defense. Cleveland is taking on the Los Angeles Chargers and pressuring Justin Herbert will be crucial if they are going to rebound from their loss to the Atlanta Falcons last week.
