New Era pulls Cleveland Local Market hat

New Era released a series of hats focusing on things from the Local Market and all including the one for Cleveland has been pulled.

Every once in a while a sports clothing supplier comes up with an idea so bad nearly everyone hates it. That was the case with New Era as they released the Local Market line. The hat for the Cleveland Baseball Club included a 1920 World Series patch (not the most recent win for the franchise), a guitar, the outline of the state of Ohio, a pierogi, the 216 area code, a reference to The Forest City, and a buckeye leaf. The hat for the Cincinnati Reds also featured the same outline of Ohio and buckeye leaf as well.

Shortly after debuting the line was pulled by New Era.

This comes as no surprise considering the universal panning from nearly everyone. The best roast of this hat came from The Athletic’s Zack Meisel.

Tell us how you really feel Zack, because this was spot on. This was just one of the universal roasts that this line was hit with by pretty much everyone. The fact the hats no longer appear on New Era’s website is hardly surprising.

It almost seems like New Era was having a heat check moment, believing that anything they put out will receive praise and be purchased by fans everywhere. It has to be that or trying to see if people will buy just whatever piece of garbage they make available for purchase. Either way these hats should never have been produced if they were going to use clipart from pre-2000 word processors.
