Expanded playoffs is good news for Cleveland

Major League Baseball is expanding the playoffs for the 2020 season and that is good news for the Cleveland Baseball Club.

The playoffs seem to be more than just a possibility for the Cleveland Baseball Club, they should be a certainty. Major League Baseball is expanding the playoffs for the 2020 season from 10 teams to 16 teams, giving Cleveland a much better chance to make the postseason.

While the Minnesota Twins are the favorite to win the American League Central, Cleveland can now make the playoffs if the finish in second place. Cleveland’s 93-69 record last season would have secured a playoff berth. Even if the team does not finish in second there are two more spots based entirely off of record. Cleveland had the sixth-best record overall in the American League last season which would qualify them as a playoff team.

Before the announcement of the expanded playoffs Cleveland may have not been a popular pick to make the postseason A combination of roster transition and some unknown aspects of their team led to this conclusion. Now that there are more opportunities and a second place division finish qualifies as a playoff berth, the postseason is a much more attainable goal. In fact, if the team does not make the playoffs it would be a complete failure on their part.
