Collin Sexton

Could the Cavs move Collin Sexton?

The Cavs landed the third overall pick pick in the 2021 NBA Draft leading to the possibility that the team trades Collin Sexton.

With the NBA Draft Lottery going the Cavs way Tuesday, a ton of options are now available for Cleveland. Not just options in the draft, but possible alterations to the current roster. Brian Windhorst of ESPN was on ESPN Cleveland Wednesday and stated that the team could end up trading current players on the team. Windhorst specially mentioned Collin Sexton as someone who could be on the move along with Darius Garland.

Of course this scenario is part of the hypothetical drafting of Jalen Suggs by the Cavs. Windhorst also agreed with Ben Axelrod’s opinion of “pumping the brakes” on the possibility of core four for the Cavs.

Windhorst was not the only person to talk about a possible trade of Collin Sexton Wednesday as Matt Babcock of BasketballNews.com appeared on Baskin and Phelps on 92.3 The Fan. Babcock discussed the possibility of the Cavs trading Sexton during his appearance on the show. Given the scenario of having Sexton, Garland, Jalen Green/Suggs, and Okoro, Babcock said that one of them would have to move to the bench. Babcock added that he believes here is enough minutes for all of them, but they would have to buy-in to make it work.

At the end of the day, whatever the Cavs decide to do in the draft should not be impacted by their current roster. The team is so far away from being relevant that they need to keep infusing talent into the team. Even if that comes at the expense of someone like Collin Sexton.
