Browns fans need to relax about roster cuts

It is roster cut time for the Cleveland Browns and the reactions from fans are getting a little bit out of hand.

Roster cuts at the end of preseason is just part of the business of football. There will always be players who will be cut even if they had a good training camp or preseason. The Cleveland Browns are beginning that process right now and of course there are fans who are outraged.

The process of trimming down the roster began Monday with the release of Jaelen Strong. Judging by the reaction of Browns fans on Twitter you would have thought they cut Odell Beckham Jr. Do yourself a favor and do a quick search on Twitter around the time the Browns released Strong. The reactions are a bit extreme you think? With their full compliment of receivers Strong is at best the fifth receiver on the roster. Are we really getting worked up about the fifth receiver?

If you are, do yourself a favor.

Set down your phone, take a couple deep breaths and relax.

It was unlikely that Jaelen Strong was going to see the field in any capacity to begin with. Getting frustrated with a player who was on the fringe of making the roster to begin with is a bit excessive.

It is understandable considering the quality of players being cut now will be much better than those cut in the past. Remember the legend of Josh Lenz? Browns Twitter was in an inconsolable state after the Browns cut him. Lenz did not appear in a game before signing with the Browns and has not appeared in a game after he was cut.

Now the players Cleveland will be forced to make decisions on should appear in games on other teams. Jaelen Strong is a candidate for a team that needs a receiver. All he needs is an opportunity, an opportunity that was not in Cleveland. On a team where Strong could contribute on the offense rather than barely see the field.

As the Browns become better they will cut players of better quality than in previous years. Teams like the Patriots and Saints cut quality players each and every season. It is just the cost of being a good NFL team. Until Cleveland is cutting players of similar quality that New England and New Orleans are, it is time to relax. It is a complete waste of time to get upset about a player who was unlikely to make an impact anyway. Take that energy and apply it elsewhere.
