Rashard Higgins to test free agency

Unrestricted free agent to be wide receiver Rashard Higgins will test the waters of free agency. Although the Browns want him back “at the right price”.

Four little words may have already determined the future of Rashard Higgins in Cleveland. “At the right price”. That little line of B.S. points exactly to what everyone said would happen, but others said repeatedly not to worry. Well, are you worried now? This is the second player in two days that this penny-pinching, value-seeking logic has been applied to. (The other being Joe Schobert Saturday).

It’s nice and all that the Browns front office is putting on the charade of attempting to keep their free agents. By saying those four words they are feeding the masses that their “smarter than everyone else in the room” way of operating things is working. When in fact, it’s not. Willingly creating holes on the roster for no reason besides saving money is horrible roster building strategy. That is what the Browns have accomplished over the past 24 hours, creating holes at linebacker and wide receiver. Their probable solution? Draft selections and bottom of the barrel free agent signings.

Now, I am not the biggest fan of Rashard Higgins as I believe him to be more replaceable than most. However, the fact the Browns have instantly gone to the well of “the right price” two times with unrestricted free agents should be setting off alarms everywhere to those who initially praised this new aligned process.

“At the right price” has essentially pushed Rashard Higgins out the door and this phrase is just an exercise in saving face in front of a disgruntled fanbase. They can now lie and claim that they tried to keep him, but the discussed contract terms would not line up with their vision in how to build the roster.
