Cavs hire Luke Walton as assistant coach

A familiar face from California will be returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers as an assistant coach. No, not who you are thinking of, it is Luke Walton. Walton will serve as an assistant under J.B. Bickerstaff. https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1531669975756419079?s=20&t=OPhDo-uXQ1MnwJ1PxMt9sw vs Luke Walton has served as an assistant previously, famously standing in for Steve Kerr in Golden States 73-9 2016 season. Walton was at the helm for more games (43) than Kerr (39) during their record breaking season. The success as interim coach lead to Walton being hired by the Los Angeles Lakers. Los Angeles did not reach their lofty expectations and considering they just landed LeBron James in free agency this was unacceptable. The two sides parted ways after the 2019 season with W...

Evan Mobley named first team All-Rookie

Cleveland Cavaliers rookie Evan Mobley has been named to the 2021-22 NBA All-Rookie first team. https://twitter.com/shamscharania/status/1527080629195636736?s=21&t=fDqxKrWmqp_0mm8bDwMjSQ This development seemed to be more of a formality than question throughout the rookie campaign of Evan Mobley. Mobley would finish third in Rookie of the Year voting averaging 15 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.7 blocks in 69 games. Evan Mobley should become comfortable with ending up on year end lists as he has proven that he belongs in the NBA.

Cavaliers hold 14th overall pick in ’22 draft

As expected, the Cleveland Cavaliers will hold the 14th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. While the Cavs had a very small chance to improve their spot 0.5% for first overall, 2.4% for top four), this was the most likely scenario. Cleveland has held the third, fifth (twice), and eighth pick in the previous four drafts. The Orlando Magic ended up with the first overall selection with Oklahoma City, Houston, and Sacramento rounding out the top four. The NBA Draft will take place June 23, 2022. Anderson Varejao was the Cavaliers representative at the NBA Draft Lottery which took place Tuesday night. Previous representatives include Nick Gilbert and Machine Gun Kelly.

Cavaliers miss out on NBA Awards

The Cleveland Cavaliers took a massive step forward last season in their ascension from the basement of the Eastern Conference, but did not result in any awards for members of the organization. Award winner after award winner was announced without any Cavs taking home the respective honor. Up for Most Improved Player, Darius Garland finished in third behind winner Ja Morant and second place Dejounte Murray. Garland's rise in the wake of multiple teammates suffering season-ending injuries propelled the Cavs to postseason play without LeBron James for the first time in a quarter century. In a very controversial decision Evan Mobley finished in second place for Rookie of the Year with Toronto's Scottie Barnes being named the winner. The 15 vote differential is the smallest ever in th...

Dean Wade cleared for on court activity

Cleveland Cavaliers third year forward Dean Wade has had surgery on his meniscus and has been cleared for on court activity. Wade was ruled out for the season in late-March after an earlier timetable suggested 4-6 weeks. https://twitter.com/kelseyyrusso/status/1520790988507209730?s=20&t=FY5tErv41vsHAP8Ys1z3WA It was a productive for season in Cleveland for Dean Wade. Wade averaged 5.3 points and 2.9 rebounds in 51 games (28 starts) last season. The 25-year old was made 45.6% of his field goal attempts in addition to 35.9% from deep. Wade should be key role player next season as the Cavs look to make the leap from play-in to playoffs.

Cavaliers season a success despite no playoffs

Even though the Cleveland Cavaliers season ended at the play-in tournament, their season can still be deemed a success. The expectations for the Cleveland Cavaliers coming into the 2021-22 season were not high. Many predictions have the Cavs somewhere in the 27-30 win range which would have been a small step forward in the right direction. Cleveland outperformed expectations and found themselves on the brink of a playoff berth. Back-to-back losses to the Nets and Hawks resulted in the Cavaliers watching the playoffs from home, but with that being said this season was a massive success. Cleveland has three foundational players in Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen. Garland ascended into a near superstar level of player while Allen was a force down low on both sides of the...

Cavaliers lose to Hawks in final play-in game

The Cleveland Cavaliers had their season on the line when taking on the Atlanta Hawks Friday and it did not end the way they wanted. After entering the half with a 61-51 lead, it was a less than stellar second half for the Cavs. Once Atlanta tied the game at 86 just over two and half minutes into the 4th the game was all but over. The scales were tipped in the Hawks favor at that point and the Cavs fate was sealed. Atlanta outscored Cleveland 56-40 over the final two quarters leading to a slim six-point Cavs point loss. Atlanta's Trae Young was the difference for the Hawks in this game. Young finished with a game-high 38 points on 13-25 from the field and 8-9 from the charity stripe. While Darius Garland did finish with 21 points and nine assists, his 9-27 shooting performance and ...

Cavaliers to face Hawks in final play-in game

After dropping their first play-in game, the Cleveland Cavaliers are set to host the Atlanta Hawks Friday in a win or go home situation. Atlanta defeated Charlotte by nearly 30 points as they sent the Hornets home. The Cavs have faced the Hawks four times this season, winning the first matchup followed by three consecutive losses. The margin of defeat in every game grew from three to eight to 24 in their final matchup. Trends wise things do not look great for Cleveland. When it comes to the Hawks everything starts with Trae Young. Young is one the young bright stars in the league and he is able to carry Atlanta on his back to victory. In 76 games Young is averaging 28.4 points, 9.7 assists, and 3.1 rebounds while averaging 38.2% from deep and 46% overall. The one potential x-fa...

Cavaliers no match for Nets in 115-108 loss

It was the first postseason (not playoff) game for the Cleveland Cavaliers without LeBron James in nearly a quarter century and it did not necessarily go well. The Brooklyn Nets were in control from the start as they never trailed, at one point leading the Cavs by 22 points. Cleveland was able to make things interesting late, cutting the Brooklyn lead to just six with over five minutes to play, but it was ultimately the veteran experience of the Nets that prevailed. Darius Garland lead the Cavaliers in scoring with 34 points.. Putting the team on his back in an attempt to keep this game competitive, Garland was 13-24 from the field while making three of six shots from deep and five of six from the free throw line. Evan Mobley also made a large contribution for the Cavs, finishing with...
