Facing a possible 3-0 series deficit, the Tampa Bay Lightning were able to take Game 3 to turn a potential sweep into a competitive series. A return trip home after trailing two games to none is sometimes all it takes to awaken a sleeping giant. Tampa Bay was coming off a 7-0 loss to the Colorado Avalanche in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals and needed to bounce back in the worst way. As the series shifted to Amalie Arena so did the winner of the contest. After trailing midway through the 1st period it was Tampa Bay who rattled off three consecutive goals to take a 3-1 lead. Avs take 2-0 lead in Stanley Cup Finals

Coming into the Stanley Cup Finals there was the expectation that if any team was going to take a two games to none lead it would be the two-time reigning champion Tampa Bay Lightning. Unfortunately for Tampa Bay the Colorado Avalanche had other ideas. After two games it is Colorado with the two game advantage with Saturday's lopsided 7-0 victory leaving the hockey world stunned. Game 1 was extremely completive with Tampa Bay forcing overtime after trailing 3-1 late in the 1st period. The resiliency, experience, and grit displayed by the Lightning made it appear that this would be a close and hard-fought series.
