Popcorn throwing fan deserves to be banned

A fan threw popcorn at Russell Westbrook and they should no longer be allowed to attend sporting events in person ever again.

Homer Simpson once said while attending a Springfield Isotopes game that “This ticket gives me the right, no the duty to make a complete ass of myself”. Contrary to the wisdom of Homer Simpson, the real world doesn’t work like that. This brings us to Wednesday’s playoff game between the Washington Wizards and Philadelphia 76ers. Russell Westbrook was leaving the floor after suffering an injury and a fan decided to embrace his inner Homer Simpson by dumping popcorn on the Wizards star.

This is completely unacceptable and a total scumbag move. This fan should never be allowed to attend a sporting event in any city at any stadium/arena ever again. There is a certain line that once crossed should prevent an individual from going to games again and that line was crossed Wednesday by this fan.

Russell Westbrook said that the players need to be protected after the incident and he is absolutely right.

A great way to protect the players is by making an example of this specific fan. Taking action in regards to this incident and individual can be a way to discourage others from doing something similar or worse. The reality is that there are consequences for actions in the real world. It’s about holding people accountable for doing something despicable. The privilege of attending games should no longer be an option for this fan.

Russell Westbrook-John Wall trade

Wednesday’s blockbuster trade in the NBA is sure to a cause a ripple effect. Russell Westbrook is heading to Washington and John Wall is going to Houston in a deal that sees stars who really seemed like they were going to be dealt sooner rather than later.

The Russell Westbrook experiment in Houston did not quite work out like they hoped and who knows if John Wall playing alongside James Harden will fair any better. This really seems like trying the third version of something they’ve attempted in as many years. From Chris Paul to Russell Westbrook to John Wall, at some point maybe it is time to realize that bringing another primary ball handler is not the answer for the Rockets.

John Wall’s tenure with the Wizards seemed to be on borrowed time for quite a while and bringing in Russell Westbrook does not necessarily bring the team into contention, but it should at worst make them an entertaining watch. The Westbrook-Bradley Beal duo should be effective, but is there an expiration date with this combo like the others in the past?

Anthony Davis contract with Lakers

The Lakers signed Anthony Davis to a new contract and Los Angeles should be legitimate title contenders for the next few seasons. Things are setting up for the Lakers to be in their next extended era of greatness. Even with just one more title they can find themselves alongside some of the greatest players to play for the franchise. The LeBron James-Anthony Davis combination is one of the best in the league and only few can even be in the conversation of rivaling that. It seems more like a question of when, not if the Lakers win their next title.

Ravens-Steelers game was rough

If you were someone who needed something to fall asleep to on Wednesday afternoon the Baltimore Ravens-Pittsburgh Steelers game was the perfect option. The game was a tough watch from start to finish. Neither team looked particularly good and while there are plenty of reasons for that, the fact of the matter is that it was a bad football game.

This game really looked like one played on a Wednesday without adequate practice or preparation and to call it sloppy would be generous. There were times it was unwatchable and the questionable decision making only made it worse.

The on field play led to some wild takes about other teams, particularly the Browns. The game was not good, but let’s not get out of hand. Cleveland still lost by a combined score of 76-13 to both of these teams earlier this season. Even without key players on their defense, the Ravens put up a bigger fight against the Steelers yesterday than the Browns could have at full strength.

Cavs reportedly discussed Russell Westbrook trade

The Cavaliers and Rockets reportedly discussed a trade that would send the former MVP to Cleveland.

Nothing like a trade rumor that did not work out and pops up after the fact, but that is what we have here. The Cleveland Cavaliers and Houston Rockets reportedly held trade discussions involving Russell Westbrook per Shams Charania on his Load Management podcast.

The Rockets engaged with several teams on draft week, free agency week, whatever you want to call it. They talked to Washington about John Wall, which I reported, they talked to Cleveland I’m told.”

Shams Charania in regards to the Rockets trade discussions involving Russell Westbrook

Looking back at this trade that did not happen this may be a good thing. This is not about the talent of Russell Westbrook, but the overall talent level of the Cavs roster. Cleveland would be a better team, but they would lack depth and would have to trade away long term pieces. The Cavs are not really in a position to make such a big move that is more of a win now short-term decision rather than the team building process they should be sticking to.

At the end of the day, the Cavaliers need to build up depth and find their level. While trading for Russell Westbrook would make things more exciting in Cleveland, the Cavs would be back in the same boat relatively quickly.

Russell Westbrook wants out of Houston

The Rockets guard is looking to play elsewhere as he wants to leave Houston after just one season.

At this moment in time the state of the Houston Rockets is up in the air. The team has parted ways with coach Mike D’Antoni and general manager Daryl Morey, both have since found homes in Brooklyn and Philadelphia respectively. It appears that Russell Westbrook is also looking for a new home as he reportedly wants out of Houston per Shams Charania.

There were concerns about whether or not the Russell Westbrook and James Harden pairing would work. While the team performed well during the regular season, they still failed to achieve the ultimate goal of winning a championship. This is the second consecutive season which Houston acquired a player to pair with Harden in their search for a title and it appears it will also be the second straight season in which that player is traded after the year is up. Houston is trying anything and everything to win their first title since the mid-90’s.

Teams are going to explore options in order to trade for Russell Westbrook, the only obstacle is his contract. Westbrook will make over $41 million next season and $44.2 ,millon in 2021-22. There is also a player-option in 2022-23 which will pay Westbrook just over $47 million. The key to facilitating a trade will be finding a team that can provide a quality return while being able to make Westbrook’s contract work. It is not going to be easy, but it is not out of the question for a trade to take place before next season.

Russell Westbrook to the Cavs?

After the Thunder sent Paul George to the Clippers, Oklahoma City and Russell Westbrook are exploring their trade options.

Paul George joined Kawhi Leonard in Los Angeles via trade and suddenly the Oklahoma City Thunder are in full rebuild mode. The team and Russell Westbrook are attempting to work out a trade and some are suggesting Cleveland as a possibility. The only problem is this is not a trade that makes a ton of sense for the Cavaliers.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the talent of Russell Westbrook. He is one of the best players in the NBA. Westbrook has shown he is capable of leading a team on playoff runs and filling the stat sheet. The problem is the current state of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Cleveland is currently in the midst of sort of, but not really rebuild. Yes the team struggled in the first season without LeBron James, but there were more factors at play (most notably the lengthy absence of Kevin Love). The team is not necessarily as bad as their record showed last season, but that does not mean dealing for Russell Westbrook makes sense at this time.

Acquiring a player like Westbrook is a move a team makes when they feel they are one player away from contending for a title. This is not the Cleveland Cavaliers. With their current roster they are maybe a team that contends for the eight seed at best. Acquiring Russell Westbrook in an attempt to fast forward their rebuild process is not the best move. In fact it may end up with the Cavaliers treading water and not executing the team building process correctly.

This has nothing to do with the talent or contract of Russell Westbrook or what would need to be given up to acquire him. This has everything to do with the Cavaliers not being a title contender with or without Westbrook.
