Cavaliers roll Thunder in Oklahoma City

The Cleveland Cavaliers managed to win their second straight game as they took down the Oklahoma City Thunder by a score of 129-102.

The 3rd quarter is usually a complete letdown for the Cavaliers, but this time it went Cleveland’s way. Cleveland surprisingly outscored Oklahoma City 28-14 in the 3rd en route to their 27-point win over the Thunder. It wasn’t just the 3rd quarter that they held an advantage in, is what the 4th quarter as well. The Cavaliers dropped 36 points in the final quarter to solidify their win on the road. It was an all around good performance for Cleveland as their lowest point total in any quarter was 27 in the 2nd quarter.

Perhaps in what may be the outlier of all outliers, Cleveland drained 13 three-pointers on 37 attempts in the contest. The Cavaliers average 9.4-28.1 per game from deep, both which rank dead last in the NBA. This upturn is actually a sign of improvement and maybe a light at the end of the tunnel.

SexLand leads the way

As is the case for the Cavaliers in their wins this season, Collin Sexton Darius Garland led the charge. This performance was just a bit different as SexLand’s shooting was improved (9-17, 8-15) while they also cut down on turnovers, all 3 of which belong to Garland. There have been questions about how viable this combo could be multiple times this season, but a night like this provides optimism.

Love, Okoro, Wade all step up

It wasn’t just SexLand who carried the team, all five of the Cavaliers starters scored in double-digits. Kevin Love had 18 points and 11 rebounds on 6-12 shooting (3-8 3PT, 3-4 FT). Isaac Okoro added 15 points on a 6 for 13 from the field, making 2 of 6 three-point attempts. Even Dean Wade scored 12 points, half of which came off his two three-point makes.

Prince off the bench

Taurean Prince had himself a night off the bench yet again, scoring 22 points in 28 minutes. Prince went 3-5 from deep (9-15 overall) and finished with 6 assists, 3 rebounds, and 1 steal. The veteran forward is proving to be a valuable contributor off the bench for the Cavs as of late.

Cleveland returns to action when they host the Raptors Saturday night at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse at 7:30 P.M.

Cavaliers travel to Oklahoma City Thursday

With the possibility of winning two consecutive games on the line, the Cleveland Cavaliers travel to Oklahoma City to face the Thunder.

It was a surprising 24-point win for the Cleveland Cavaliers against the Spurs Monday as the team was carried by Darius Garland. The Cavs are looking to win their second straight game Thursday in Oklahoma City.

The Thunder have lost four straight games and seven of their last 10 while the Cavs also have that same record over the same span. Both teams find themselves in the bottom of their respective conferences with Cleveland at 18-32 and Oklahoma City at 20-31. Neither team has been particularly good this season with the Thunder outright tanking with the Cavaliers pretending they’re not. The scoring differentials for both teams are eerily similar, with both the Thunder and Cavs being outscored by almost 8 points per game.

What this game will come down to is which team will play slightly worse than the other. Looking at the performances of the Cavaliers and Thunder this season it really could be either team. All it will take is a run at the precise right time for one of these teams to come out victorious.

Chris Paul traded to Phoenix Suns

The Oklahoma City Thunder have traded the veteran point guard to the Phoenix Suns.

Chris Paul will be playing for his fourth team in five seasons the next time he takes the court, Oklahoma City and Phoenix agreed to a deal that will send the veteran guard to the Suns. In addition to Paul, the Suns will also receive 27-year old forward Abdel Nader while Oklahoma City will receive four players and a 2022 first round draft pick. Those players include Kelly Oubre, Ricky Rubio, Ty Jerome, and Jalen Lecque.

This deal is for two teams heading in different directions. The Phoenix Suns clearly believe they are in contention mode and acquiring Chris Paul only helps their cause. Paul can be the veteran presence that the Suns need in order to potentially make a run in the Western Conference. For the Thunder, they area team that is focused on the future. Oklahoma City just continues to add to their draft pick arsenal (17 first round picks in the next six drafts) and will look to utilize them to rebuild their team. The Thunder will be in a transition period as they are finally able to transition from their post-contention era. There is a lot of work to do for Sam Presti and the Thunder, but they are making sure they are getting as many chances as possible to make it work.

Cavaliers travel to Oklahoma City in search of win

Losers of four straight games, the Cleveland Cavaliers travel to Oklahoma City to take on the Thunder and get an elusive win.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have only won once in their last 12 games and are taking on a team that has only lost once in their past eight games in the Oklahoma City Thunder. With trade rumors surrounding Tristan Thompson and John Henson, things may be a bit more difficult for the Cavs. Being in a transitional phase generally makes things more difficult than usual. Add in playing a team with a winning record and it’s certainly an unenviable situation.

The Thunder are averaging 116.5 points per game while only giving up 107. Oklahoma City has failed to score 110+ points only once in their past eight games. A 107-97 loss to Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks.

Surprisingly, Cleveland has more wins on the road than at home. The Cavaliers are 7-17 away from Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse this season, while they are 6.-21 at home. Even though they are better on the road record-wise, it is far from a guarantee that they will win Wednesday night. The Thunder are currently the seventh team in the Western Conference and are fighting for a playoff spot. Even though many believed they would tank after sending Russell Westbrook to the Houston Rockets this past offseason.

Cleveland is going to have their hands full and could possibly end up on the wrong side of a lopsided score in Oklahoma City.
