With A Jimmmitude: Saints, Winston, Hill

Drew Brees is out for the foreseeable future and the New Orleans Saints are in a tough spot. Sean Payton has two options to turn to, Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill. For some reason, Payton has selected Hill as his starter with Winston relegated to the bench.

Winston is not going to have any offensive packages and that is bizarre. Sure, Hill can be a fun player to watch, but he is no starting quarterback. Hill is best used in a select spots in offensive schemes that are more of a gimmick than anything. There are limitations to Hill and what his skill set can provide and over the course of an entire game they should come to light fairly quickly.

Let’s get one thing straight, I am not blindly supporting Winston. Winston has shown to be a turnover machine and up until this past offseason had issues with his vision. Would Winston be a clear upgrade over Hill? Not necessarily, but if he was the starter it would allow the Saints to use Hill in the correct fashion. That being a couple plays here and there every few drives or so.

If there is one thing that this experiment will hopefully do it is end the nonsensical belief that Taysom Hill is the successor to Drew Brees in New Orleans. Jameis Winston probably isn’t the answer either, but let’s be real it is not Hill.

Drew Brees has rib fractures and collapsed lung

The New Orleans Saints quarterback suffered multiple injuries in Sunday’s win over San Franscico.

While the New Orleans Saints were able to win the game, they lost their starting quarterback. Drew Brees has multiple fractured ribs and a collapsed lung following a hit in Sunday’s game.

Drew Brees was obviously unable to finish the game and the Saints turned to Jameis Winston to fill in. Winston would go 6 of 10 for 63 yards while being sacked twice.

This is not new territory for the Drew Brees and the Saints. Brees dealt with an injury last season that kept him out for a few games which led to Teddy Bridgewater getting the nod as their starting quarterback. Add in the fact that Saints coach Sean Payton is no stranger to mixing it up at the quarterback position and they seem more than prepared to handle this situation. Jameis Winston is not Drew Brees by any means, but a combination of Winston and Taysom Hill should be able to manufacture enough offense to continue winning games in his absence.

Alvin Kamara on the way out from New Orleans?

According to reports, the New Orleans Saints are open to trading dynamic running back Alvin Kamara.

The situation in New Orleans was interesting when reports surfaced that Alvin Kamara was absent from practice. Now things are getting just a bit more interesting in New Orleans. The Saints are open to trading Alvin Kamara according to Josina Anderson.

Ian Rapoport would add that a trade has not been requested by Kamara or his agent.

What this appears to be coming down to is money. Kamara is going to need a new contract and there is a certain number the Saints are willing to pay him.

Now it would be crazy for a team like New Orleans to trade Alvin Kamara when they only have so much time left with Drew Brees. Having the full compliment of weapons available to Brees is the best way to maximize their limited time left. While handing Kamara a large contract is not necessarily the best idea, there has to be some sort of middle ground that the two sides can agree upon.

Browns should pass on Larry Warford

On paper it would make sense for the Cleveland Browns to be interested in Larry Warford, but they should look elsewhere if they want to add a lineman.

A possible offensive line option came on the market as the New Orleans Saints cut veteran Pro Bowl guard Larry Warford Friday. The Saints attempted to find a trade partner, but were unable to do so.

There is one position on the Cleveland Browns that could use an upgrade and that is the right guard position. Larry Warford has started 101 games at the position since coming into the league in 2013. Cleveland’s current right guard situation is relatively unsettled. Cleveland has Wyatt Teller, but his presence should not prevent them from looking for an upgrade. On the surface this seems like a perfect match, it would be better for the Browns to look elsewhere.

The problem with Warford is his fit with the offense that Cleveland will run. The reason why New Orleans moved on from Warford in favor of Cesar Ruiz was due to one thing and one thing only. Speed. Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football (subscription required) wrote an article detailing the difference in speed when it comes to Ruiz vs. Warford. With the Browns wanting to run an offense that requires offensive lineman to be able to move, the fit simply isn’t there.

While there are going to be fans who want to make a move for the sake of making a move, better look elsewhere. A signing on the defensive side of the ball would make a lot more sense at this point in time.
