The Cleveland Indians have optioned Logan Allen, Bobby Bradley, Yu Chang, Daniel Johnson, and Scott Moss to AAA Columbus.

Cleveland has made some decisions in regards to some of their players on their roster. The Indians have optioned five players to Columbus.

Logan Allen, Bobby Bradley, Yu Chang, Daniel Johnson, and Scott Moss will start the season with the Columbus Clippers.

Logan Allen is someone the Indians have high hopes for but is not ready at this time. Allen was one of the players that came over in the Trevor Bauer deal and could have a bright future ahead of him despite not having success in his limited MLB action thus far. Allen’s track record in the minors is significantly better and points towards better days for the soon to be 23-year old lefty.

Bobby Bradley had a relatively slim chance to make the team out of spring training. There was simply not a clear path for him to make the roster. If the Indians did not go out and sign Domingo Santana things may have been different. Barring an injury or a

Yu Chang was in the mix for a utility role for the Tribe, but did not do enough to avoid being optioned to Columbus. Chang is someone who it not impressive at the plate and any chance of making the team was reliant on others falling short.

Daniel Johnson was someone of interest considering the Indians outfield configuration. Like Bobby Bradley, Johnson is someone who could have made the team if Domingo Santana was not signed.

Scott Moss will also start the year with the Clippers. Moss is yet to make his MLB debut and the Indians clearly feel he needs a bit more time to work on his stuff.

The Cleveland Indians were not able to win their second consecutive Spring Training game, falling to the Colorado Rockies by a score of 12-8.

Well, the Cleveland Indians were not going to go undefeated in Spring Training. They got that first loss in Arizona out of the way Monday with a 12-8 loss to the Colorado Rockies. This comes after a 9-5 win against the Royals on Sunday.

Hitters of note

Francisco Lindor went 1-2 with a two-run homer in the 2nd inning which gave Cleveland a 4-1 lead.

Oscar Mercado also went 1-2, scoring two runs and walking once.

Jose Ramirez had himself a day, busting out in style with RBI doubles in the 1st and 5th innings. Ramirez would later score on a wild pitch. Jose went 2-3 on the day.

The top three hitters in the Indians lineup went a combined 4-7, that’s very encouraging from their first game in Arizona.

Bradley Zimmer showed some power, hitting a two-run bomb in the 6th inning which gave Cleveland a temporary 8-6 lead.

Pitchers of note

Zach Plesac got the start for the Tribe and he allowed one run on two hits in 2 innings. Plesac would strike out two and walk one in his brief appearance.

Monday was not a great day for Logan Allen. Allen allowed four runs on three hits and two walks in just one-third of an inning. For someone who is fighting for a spot on the Opening Day roster this is not a great start. While there is still plenty of time to change his fortunes, this was an unspectacular appearance from Allen.

Nick Wittgren did not allow a baserunner in his one inning of work. Pretty standard stuff for Wittgren.

It was an absolute disaster for Argenis Angulo. Angulo came on in the bottom of the 8th and things did not go well. The 25-year old pitcher allowed five runs on just one hit and four walks in one-third of inning. This counts as a blown save and a loss for Argenis Angulo.

Cleveland will take on the Chicago White Sox in Goodyear Tuesday at 3:05 P.M.

Indians trade Bauer in blockbuster deal

The Cleveland Indians dealt Trevor Bauer to the Cincinnati Reds in a blockbuster three team deal that also includes the San Diego Padres.

It was only a matter of time. Trevor Bauer is no longer a member of the Cleveland Indians. Trevor Bauer was sent to the Cincinnati Reds in a blockbuster trade. Cleveland receives Yasiel Puig, Franmil Reyes and Logan Allen to improve the big league roster. Cleveland also added minor league prospects Victor Nova and Scott Moss in addition to the Major League players they received.

The Indians entered this season stuck in-between a rock and a hard place in regards to Bauer. Bauer is a great pitcher but his contract status and his potential large salary next year through arbitration made a trade seem inevitable. The return that Cleveland got for Bauer right now is greater than if they would have waited to deal him after the season. For a team that has to work with financial constraints, this is a deal that had to be done now.

Adding Yasiel Puig and Franmil Reyes to the outfield provides a bit more pop in the lineup. The duo have combined for 49 home runs, 24 doubles and 107 runs driven in this season. Puig is only a rental for this season, but Reyes is under contract until 2025 and figures to be a fixture of the Tribe outfield for the foreseeable future.

Logan Allen may contribute in some form this season. Allen has started four games this season but has also come out of the bullpen for his last three appearances. While he has not had much success in San Diego (6.75 ERA, 1.776 WHIP in 25.1 innings), he should be able to help in the future. Allen is only 22 years old and has plenty of time to improve on his early performances.
