3 Browns considered Top-100 players

Advertisements

Three members of this year’s Cleveland Browns team appeared in Pete Prisco’s Top 100 list appearing on CBS Sports. This is just the opinions of one individual, with that particular person having his fair shore of hot takes, but this list is still notable.

Honorable Mention

Before getting into which players made it, there is one who just missed the list, Denzel Ward. Ward did have a down year, but he still one of the better corners in the league. With eight cornerbacks appearing in the Top 100, Ward’s relegation to Honorable Mention is not that big of a shock.

49. Joel Bitonio

Browns left guard Joel Bitonio is ranked number 49 on Prisco’s list. Bitonio is the second-highest guard on the list, only behind Dallas’ Zack Martin at 25. Four other guards do appear in the Top-100 grouped between 59 and 80. Prisco had the following to say about Bitonio.

On a Browns line hit by injuries last season, he was the steady force, starting all 17 games. He is equally good in the run game as in pass protection.

Short and to the point, but without getting into a full blown offensive line breakdown session, it is difficult to say a whole lot about play at the guard position.

33. Nick Chubb

The third-highest running back on the list is Nick Chubb. The two running backs ahead of the Browns star are San Francisco’s Christian McCaffrey at 27 and Tennessee’s Derrick Henry at 30. Five other running backs appear after Chubb, all but one being outside the Top-50 (Jonathan Taylor, 36). This is what Prisco noted about Chubb.

Chubb had his best season in 2022, rushing for a career-high 1,525 yards while scoring 13 touchdowns. He continues to be the focal point of the Cleveland offense.

That last part, “the focal point of the Cleveland offense” has been true for quite some time. That may change with the Browns now having a full season of Deshaun Watson as their starting quarterback, but still expect Chubb to carry a heavy load offensively.

5. Myles Garrett

Top-five seems right for Myles Garrett. There is only one other defensive player ahead of Garrett and it happens to Nick Bosa coming in at fourth overall. Coming in second to the reigning Defensive Player of the Year is not too bad in the grand scheme of things. Garrett is one of the best defensive ends in the league and his on-field production has certainly shown it, Prisco makes sure to mention exactly that.

He tied for second in the league in sacks with 16 and remains one of the most dominant edge players in the league. Now that they’ve added some pass-rush help, his numbers might be even better this season.

The Browns defense has always gone where Garrett has taken them. This is something that can only be applied to a select handful of players of which Garrett is one. Cleveland’s success or failure defensively is ultimately tied to Garrett, but the aforementioned “pass-rush help” should lessen the load on his shoulders week-in and week-out.

Stefanski: “we’ll see” about two key Browns

When asked about the status of two key players, Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said “we’ll see” about their availability.

The steep hill the Browns are currently climbing in regards to Thursday’s game against Pittsburgh may have gotten just a bit steeper. Head coach Kevin Stefanski stated “we’ll see” in regards to Joel Bitonio and Myles Garrett.

This is hardly the news anyone wants to hear. Jadeveon Clowney has already been ruled out for the game against the Steelers and have subsequently placed Chase Winovich and Jesse James on injured reserve. While it is not necessarily time to sound the alarm about the Browns depth for Thursday, it is more than acceptable to acknowledge the button that sounds the alarm is in the room. There is plenty of time for Garrett and Bitonio to recover, but they are up against the clock.

Browns name 2022 team captains

The Cleveland Browns have announced their team captains for the upcoming 2022-23 season. Joel Bitonio, Nick Chubb, Myles Garrett, Anthony Walker, and Charley Hughlett received the honors this season.

Last season the Browns did not have full season captains as they went with the weekly approach. It appears that the team has opted to reverse course for this season by appointing players who are more than deserving of this status. Chubb, Garrett, and Bitonio are some of, if not the best at their positions while Walker has become a leader on defense and Hughlett is the longest-tenured special teams player being with the team since 2014.

Browns sign Joel Bitonio to extension

The Cleveland Browns have solidified the middle of their offensive line by signing their right guard to a three-year contract extension.

Like Wyatt Teller the day before, the Cleveland Browns have signed another guard to a contact extension. This time it is Joel Bitonio. Bitonio has signed a three-year deal which will pair him with Teller through 2025.

It is a three-year $48 million deal for Bitonio per Ian Rapoport.

Between Joel Bitonio and Teller, they have two of three highest graded guards per Pro Football Focus.

By signing this deal, Joel Bitonio becomes the first player the Browns drafted in the expansion era to sign a third contract.

Joel Bitonio activated by Browns

The Cleveland Browns have activated their starting left guard.

Joel Bitonio may not have been able to make his playoff debut last week, but that changes now. The Cleveland Browns have activated their longest tenured player from the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Joel Bitonio is one of the best left guards in all of football and the Browns somehow managed to keep the vaunted Steelers defense at bay without him. The return of Bitonio means that one of the best offensive lines in all of football will be at full strength as they take on the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday.

Browns: Myles Garrett, Jack Conklin AP All-Pros

The Cleveland Browns defensive end and right tackle have been named All-Pros by the Associated Press.

In case anyone needed confirmation that Myles Garrett and Jack Conklin are good, the Associated Press can provide exactly that. The AP has named the Browns defensive end and right tackle as All-Pros.

Garrett and Conklin are two of the best players at their position and more than deserve the accolade.

In addition to Garrett and Conklin, Joel Bitonio and Wyatt Teller were named second team All-Pros by the AP.

Like their first team All-Pro teammates, Teller and Bitonio are two of the best at their respective positions.

What this should tell everyone is that the Browns have some really good players at key positions and they should build around them.

Browns: Bitonio, Hodge test positive for COVID-19

The Cleveland Browns will be without their left guard and wide receiver when they face the Steelers Sunday night.

In addition to being without head coach Kevin Stefanski, the Cleveland Browns will be without the services of Joel Bitonio and KhaDarel Hodge as they also tested positive for COVID-19.

Being without Joel Bitonio is huge loss for the Browns offensive line. Bitonio is one of the better left guards in the NFL and losing him for a game against Pittsburgh is not ideal. KhaDarel Hodge has come on the past few weeks and has made some impactful plays for the Browns.

Browns: Bitonio, Garrett, Chubb selected to Pro Bowl

The Pro Bowl rosters have been revealed and there are three members of the Cleveland Browns on the roster. Left guard Joel Bitonio, defensive end Myles Garrett, and running back Nick Chubb.

Bitonio, Garrett, and Chubb being named to the Pro Bowl is not entirely surprising as they are three of the best players at their respective positions. This will be Bitonio’s third, Garrett’s second, and Chubb’s second Pro Bowl appearance.
