The Cleveland Cavaliers have waived guard Damyean Dotson while agreeing to a terms on a two-year deal with guard Denzel Valentine.

The Cleveland Cavaliers made a  couple of roster moves. No, this is not one of them. First the Cavs waived  guard Damyean Dotson.

Dotson appeared in 46 games for the Cavaliers last season, averaging 6.7 points in 19.7 minutes per game.

The second move the Cavs made Friday was signing former Chicago Bull Denzel Valentine to a two-year deal.

Cleveland expressed interest in Valentine about a month ago, so the signing is not necessarily all that surprising. For his career Valentine averages 7.4 points and 3.5 rebounds in 19.8 minutes per game.

The Cleveland Cavaliers were not able to defeat the Brooklyn Nets in the final game of the regular season.

Even if the Cleveland Cavaliers would have been full strength they would have had a tough time being competitive against the Brooklyn Nets. Kevin Love and Darius Garland were the only two players with injuries who did not play who were not previously designated as out for the season. The absence of Love and Garland certainly played a factor as the Nets outscored the Cavs 99-76 though the first three quarters before Cleveland scored 33 compared to Brooklyn’s 24 in a garbage time 4th quarter.

Not helping matters was Collin Sexton getting ejected midway through the 3rd quarter.

While overall the foul flagrant 2 foul call is a bit extreme here, Sexton cannot be this reckless in a game. That is before even mentioning that the player that Sexton fouled was Kevin Durant. It was a no-win situation here for Sexton and he needs to be aware of this. Sexton finished with 16 points and 5 assists in his final game of the season.

There were four other Cavaliers who scored in double-digits in the contest. Dean Wade and Isaac Okoro were tied for a team-high 18 points. Damyean Dotson chipped in 17 off the bench and Brodric Thomas added 14 as well.

Now that the season is over the Cavaliers have a lot of decisions to make. There are obvious players who do not work together. Additionally, the team needs to pick one direction to head towards (rebuild) instead of attempting to contend at this point in time.

Cavaliers fall short vs. Giannis-less Bucks

The Cleveland Cavaliers were unable to extend their win streak Saturday as they lost to the Milwaukee Bucks by a score of 100-90.

While they Cleveland Cavaliers were without several key players Saturday night they still had a chance since the Milwaukee Bucks were without their best player Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Cavs were able to rally at times, but a flat 1st quarter may have cost them the game as they were on the wrong side of a 100-90 final score.

Andre Drummond goes 20-20

Stop if you heard this before, Andre Drummond finished with a double-double. This is the 10th straight for the Cavaliers big man to begin the season. This double-double was just a little more special than the others as he scored 26 points and grabbed 24 rebounds. The last time a Cavaliers player had 20+ points and 20+ rebounds in the same game was Anderson Varejao on January 31, 2012. Drummond has been nothing short of spectacular this season and is a big reason why the Cavaliers been competitive this season despite all the adversity they have faced.

Dotson steps up in absence of SexLand

Cleveland was again without the services of their backcourt duo known as SexLand. Collin Sexton and Darius Garland did not play due to injuries, but they should be able to return sooner rather than later. This left the Cavaliers with Damyean Dotson as their only active guard. Dotson was Cleveland’s second-highest scorer with 21 points and also tallied 8 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block. It was not the most efficient shooting performance (8-17 FG, 2-7 3PT), but this was a situation where the only thing that mattered was points on the scoreboard. Dotson is definitely showing that he can be a contributor for this team.

Larry Nance Jr. impresses yet again

Last but not least, Larry Nance Jr. had another impressive performance as he was able to impact multiple areas of the game. Nance finished with 17 points, 4 steals, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 block. The Cavaliers lead the league in steals with 10.4 per game and Nance’s league leading 26 steals this season is a big reason why. Nance has been an all around impactful player this season and has taken the next step that many were waiting for.

The Cavaliers will look for a better result Monday as they return home to take on the Memphis Grizzlies at 7:00 P.M.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to two-year deal with the 26 year old free agent shooting guard.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported Monday afternoon that the Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to a deal with Damyean Dotson .The deal is worth $4 million according to Wojnarowski.

A roster spot became open after Cleveland sent Alfonzo McKinnie and Jordan Bell to the Lakers in exchange for JaVale McGee. Cleveland will not need Damyean Dotson to be a prominent player, just someone who can perform if needed. The Cavs could utilize Dotson off the bench if they find themselves playing a smaller bench lineup. Cleveland already has plenty of guards on the roster, but a smaller lineup could be his way to seeing minutes on the court. There is also the possibly of staggering minutes between players such as Collin Sexton, Darius Garland, and Kevin Porter Jr. which could also provide an opening for the 26-year old shooting guard.

Damyean Dotson was a free agent after spending the first three seasons of his career with the New York Knicks. Dotson averaged 7.8 points in 20.1 minutes per game on 41.9% shooting from the field and 36.1% from deep.
