Blue Jackets sign Billy Sweezey to two-year deal

The Columbus Blue Jackets have announced that they have signed defenseman Billy Sweezey to a two-year two-way deal. The deal will begin starting with the 2022-23 season.

Billy Sweezey has appeared in 45 games for the Cleveland Monsters, Columbus’ AHL affiliate. Sweezey has totaled 10 points on four goals and six assists. These are AHL-highs for Sweezey after spending the 2020-21 season in Wilkes-Barre/Scanton.

Jean-Francois Berube assigned to Cleveland

The Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned goaltender Jean-Francois Berube to the Cleveland Monsters. Columbus activated Jake Bean and Joonas Korpisalo off injured reserve and sent Berube to Cleveland in a corresponding move.

Jean-Francois Berube started four games for the Blue Jackets, allowing 13 goals across three wins. Berube has appeared in 17 games for Cleveland this season with a 3.37 GAA and 0.891 save percentage. Surprisingly Berube’s numbers were better in his four NHL starts (3.25 GAA, 0.924 save percentage).

Jake Christiansen recalled by Blue Jackets

The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled the defenseman from the American Hockey League.

Due to two players entering COVID-19 protocols, the Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled Jake Christiansen from the Cleveland Monsters.

Jake Christiansen previously appeared in one game for the Blue Jackets on January 6th attempting one shot. Most of Christiansen’s time has been with the Cleveland Monsters, tallying 20 points in 25 games (five goals, 15 assists).

The Columbus Blue Jackets announced Friday that they have assigned defenseman Jake Christiansen to the Cleveland Monsters of the AHL. This is the second defenseman that has been assigned to Cleveland on Friday, the other being Scott Harrington.

Jake Christiansen has been one of the more productive members of the Monsters this season. Christiansen has 18 points on the year on the strength of 13 assists and five goals. Christiansen made his NHL debut January 6th in the Blue Jackets loss to New Jersey before returning back to Cleveland.

 

Scott Harrington assigned to Cleveland

The Columbus Blue Jackets have reassigned the defenseman from their Taxi Squad.

Scott Harrington is returning to the Cleveland Monsters after being on the Taxi Squad of the Columbus Blue Jackets. The move comes Friday prior to their matchup with Milwaukee.

Scott Harrington has appeared in three games for Cleveland this season and seven for Columbus where he has resisted his lone point of the season on an assist.

Two Monsters added to Blue Jackets Taxi Squad

Two members of the Monsters have been added to the Taxi Squad of the Columbus Blue Jackets while another was reassigned to Cleveland.

Just one day after a couple of roster moves were made in Cleveland, two more Monsters have been added to the Taxi Squad of the Columbus Blue Jackets. Liam Foudy and Jake Christiansen are now on the Taxi Squad while Columbus has assigned Cam Johnson back to Cleveland.

The Blue Jackets are currently navigating an injury and COVID situation which has resulted in the club sending players up and down from the Taxi Squad. Columbus plays their next game Thursday in New Jersey while Cleveland will play Friday in Milwaukee. Making these type of moves now provides flexibility for the parent club while their AHL affiliate has to make things work on the fly.

Two roster moves for Monsters

The Cleveland Monsters have announced two roster moves with one player heading up to Columbus.

An announcement by the Cleveland Monsters sees the goaltending position continue to change on the fly. Jean-Francois Berube has been added to the Taxi Squad of the Columbus Blue Jackets due to Daniil Tarasov landing on injured reserve and Elvis Merzlikins being temporarily unavailable.

In order to fill the now vacant roster spot in Cleveland, the Monsters have signed goaltender Evan Moyse to a professional tryout contract. The Olmsted Falls native has played for the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL in addition to the Vermillion County Bobcats and Knoxville Ice Bears of the SPHL this season. Should Moyse make an appearance for the Monsters, it would be his first action in the AHL.

Blue Jackets add Dunne and Sikura to taxi squad

The Columbus Blue Jackets have added two forwards from the Cleveland Monsters to their taxi squad.

In accordance to the new taxi squad rules put in place due to COVID-19, the Columbus Blue Jackets have added two players from the Cleveland Monsters. Josh Dunne and Tyler Sikura have been recalled from Columbus’ AHL affiliate.

Dunne appeared in six games for the Blue Jackets during the 2020-21 season while Sikura is yet to make his NHL debut. Both players have contributed in Cleveland with Sikura totaling 11 points (6 G, 5 A) and Dunne having eight points (4 G, 4 A).

Daniil Tarasov recalled by Blue Jackets

The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled the goaltender from the Cleveland Monsters.

Daniil Tarasov will be returning to the Columbus Blue Jackets after returning to the Cleveland Monsters earlier in the month. Columbus has recalled the young goaltender from their AHL affiliate Sunday.

Daniil Tarasov has appeared in three games for the Blue Jackets, allowing five goals in two starts. Most of Tarasov’s time has been with the Monsters, saving 89.3% of shots on goal with a GAA of 3.016. The last two starts for Tarasov in Cleveland have not gone well, allowing seven goals in two games.

Cleveland’s scheduled game for Monday with Grand Rapids has been postponed due to COVID issues impacting the Monsters.

Christiansen assigned, Gaudet recalled to Monsters

The Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned Jake Christiansen to Cleveland while the Monsters recalled Jake Gaudet from Kalamazoo.

Two roster moves were announced by the Cleveland Monsters on Monday. Jake Christiansen returned to Cleveland after being recalled by the Columbus Blue Jackets the day before and Jake Gaudet has been recalled from Kalamazoo.

Christiansen originally was in Columbus on an emergency recall, but returns to Cleveland after the NHL shut down all operations until after the holiday break.

Gaudet has appeared in just one game for the Monsters this season while making six appearances for the Wings, registering one assist.

Cleveland’s next game is scheduled for Wednesday at home as they take on the Chicago Wolves.
