The Cleveland Browns have decided not to exercise the option for fullback Andy Janovich. Janovich will become a free agent after spending the last two seasons in Cleveland.

Andy Janovich will have suitors with more and more teams running some version of the offense utilized in Cleveland. Of course the Browns could bring Janovich back if they decide they do not want to begin the Johnny Stanton era at fullback or look for an option not currently on the roster.

It was a busy day for the Cleveland Browns in terms of roster moves. The team placed Chris Hubbard, Andy Janovoch, and M.J. Stewart on injured reserve. Hubbard has a season-ending triceps injury while Janovich and Stewart suffered injuries in Sunday’s loss to the Chargers.

In corresponding moves the Browns have activated fullback Johnny Stanton and Joe Jackson from the practice squad in agitation to activating cornerback Tim Harris and signing tackle Alex Taylor to the practice squad.

The Cleveland Browns activated their fullback from the reserve/COVID-19 list and claimed a safety from Kansas City.

A couple of roster moves were made by the Cleveland Browns Monday, first they claimed safety Tedric Thompson from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Thompson is in his fourth NFL season and it was his first with Kansas City. The 25-year old safety played his first three seasons in Seattle where he started 16 of 29 games that he appeared in. Thompson did not start any of the 8 games he appeared in with the Chiefs. Claiming Thompson was a wise decision for the Browns considering all of the injuries in the secondary. Ronnie Harrison exited Week 12 against Jacksonville and Cleveland may need Thompson to play in some capacity.

The Browns also activated fullback Andy Janovich from the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Janovich missed Weeks 11 and 12 due to being on the reserve/COVID-19 list. The Browns placed Janovich on the list on November 16 and are just now activating him. While the Cleveland rushing attack was still productive without him, it is still better to have him available than not.

The Cleveland Browns will be without their right tackle and fullback this week when they face the Philadelphia Eagles.

Chris Hubbard and Andy Janovich will not be available for the Cleveland Browns this Sunday as both players are still on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Cleveland can manage being without these two players by themselves, but a much larger problem could be on the horizon. The Browns may be without Jack Conklin as well as he remains on the reserve/COVD-19 list currently and is not eligible to return until Saturday at the earliest. This could prove to be problematic if neither player is available to play, but more will be known in regards to Conklin’s status on Saturday.

The Cleveland Browns have placed the fullback on the COVID-19/reserve list Monday.

It was reported on Monday that a member of the Cleveland Browns had tested positive for COVID-19. Later in the day the team placed fullback Andy Janovich on the COVID-19/reserve list.

Andy Janovich did play a total of 16 snaps on Sunday so this is a situation to monitor going forward. Kevin Stefanski declined to comment earlier in the day in regards to if the player who tested positive played Sunday, it appears that this was the case.

This is the second player in the past week to placed on this list, the other being offensive lineman Chris Hubbard. Even quarterback Baker Mayfield was on the list briefly before clearing protocols which allowed him to practice and subsequently play this past Sunday. The Browns need to be extremely moving forward considering the small timeframe that all of these events have taken place during.

As Mike Klis mentions, Janovich became expendable in Denver due to not needing a fullback. This allowed Cleveland to swoop in and acquire Janovich for pretty much nothing. A 7th round pick is certainly worth it from a value standpoint for Cleveland. The success rate of those picks is not high and if they can acquire a potential starter for that late of a pick you do it 100% of the time.

Once the Cleveland Browns decided to hire Kevin Stefanski as their head coach they needed to address one position that was previously ignored. Fullback. Now that they are incorporating a fullback into their offense it means that they not just one, but two players at the position. Not for competition, but for starter and backup purposes. Cleveland previously signed Johnny Stanton during the offseason, but have added another option into the mix, trading for Andy Janovich Tuesday.

The Browns have options available to them when it comes to their Week 1 fullback. When it comes to making a drastic shift in offensive philosophy it is best to have too many options than not enough. That is exactly what the Browns are doing when it comes to the fullback position.
