Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Andrew Billings will opt out of the 2020 NFL season.

The Cleveland Browns have announced that defensive tackle Andrew Billings will opt out of the 2020 season and not play for the team.

Billings signed a one-year deal with the team this past offseason and gave Cleveland some depth on the defensive line. This was a key signing for the Browns since the defensive line has lacked depth in recent years. Cleveland went out and signed Billings along with Adrian Clayborn to bolster this unit and even drafted Jordan Elliott in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Now the team may have to depend on Elliott a bit more than initially expected due to Billings opting out.

Browns add depth by signing Andrew Billings

The Cleveland Browns have added depth to their defensive line by signing former Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Andrew Billings.

The complete lack of depth on the Cleveland Browns defensive line was exposed repeatedly last season. In an effort to fix the Browns have signed former Bengals defensive tackle Andrew Billings.

It is a one-year deal for Billings with $3.5 million in guaranteed money. This is just the latest one-year deal the Browns have made on the defensive side of the ball. Cleveland signed Karl Joseph and BJ Goodson Wednesday to bolster their defense. The Browns have identified players to sign to short term deals in order to piece together a defense while keeping their options open in the upcoming draft.

Billings has spent the first three seasons of his career with the Cincinnati Bengals, totaling 80 tackles and 3.5 sacks.

At this moment in time Cleveland has three defensive tackles they can use in a rotation. Larry Ogunjobi, Sheldon Richardson, and Andrew Billings. Although this could pave the way for Cleveland to move on from Richardson and his large contract. The Browns could find other players to sign to less expensive one-year deals if they decide to go in a different direction.
