Will the Browns move on from OBJ?

Will the Cleveland Browns do the unthinkable and move on Odell Beckham Jr.?

On the surface this seems like a stupid question. Will the Cleveland Browns move on from Odell Beckham Jr.? No. Of course not. Beckham is one of the best players in the league. It would be foolish to do such a thing. After examining things a bit more closely, it is doesn’t seem so stupid.

Any decision to part ways with Odell Beckham Jr. would not be due to Adam Henry leaving the team. It would not be because of the new regime’s evaluation of the roster. It is not because of Beckham’s arrest warrant. It is the off the field issues combined with what happened during games which could lead them to think this way. The watch, the shoes, the pants, the visor, etc. Everything by itself does not seem like cause to trade the player. When added together, it is a much different story.

The reality is that Jimmy Haslam, Paul DePodesta, Kevin Stefanski, and their next general manager could decide that the team would be better off without him. This group could decide that they are better of moving on from someone who is a distraction to the team.

The Browns are operating in a manner that is going to evaluate the pros and cons of each and every player no matter how talented they are. It is very possible that they decide that there are more cons than pros and move on from the superstar wide receiver.

Adam Henry potentially leaving Browns is a bad sign

Cleveland Browns wide recievers coach Adam Henry is interviewing with the Dallas Cowboys for a spot on Mike McCarthy’s staff.

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Cleveland Browns wide receivers coach Adam Henry is interviewing with the Dallas Cowboys.

Henry came to Cleveland in 2018 and was paired up with Jarvis Landry. Odell Beckham Jr. arrived in 2019 and the trio from LSU was back together again. Well, that might be for only season. Adam Henry looking at jobs outside of Cleveland is a bad sign.

We all know the enigma that Odell Beckham Jr. is. Beckham is someone who can be a problem on the sideline from time to time. Beckham did not have any incidents in Cleveland this past season that were on the same level as the incidents in New York. Part of that is the group of Henry and Landry keeping him in line.

Adam Henry leaving could create problems

Odell Beckham Jr. is a superstar receiver, some refer to him as a diva. Either way, when it comes to players of his caliber concessions are needed from time to time. Not that every superstar player needs a support system like Beckham had in Cleveland, just that sometimes it is required to prevent a complete meltdown happening during a game.

Keeping Adam Henry in the mix would have been a great idea. Cleveland recently hired Kevin Stefanski, the former Vikings offensive coordinator. Yes, the one who called plays leading to Stefon Diggs having some not so great moments on the field this past season. The Browns are inviting a spark into a timber box and hoping it doesn’t catch fire.

Perhaps letting Henry interview elsewhere is a sign of things to come. Cleveland could be shopping Beckham and Landry to other teams. Letting Henry get another job in another city might just be a signal that it is indeed happening. The new regime will be evaluating all the players on the roster and those who do not fit their vision are on the chopping block.

Update

Adam Henry has since updated his twitter bio to reflect he is now a member of the Dallas Cowboys coaching staff. Part of the support system for Odell Beckham Jr. is now gone. It is now time to wonder just how much longer he will remain in a Cleveland Browns uniform.
