Amed Rosario

Production from Amed Rosario has fallen off

The first handful of games for Amed Rosario provided some impressive results. Since then things have not been great for the Guardians shortstop. Through six games it was a .357/.357/.429 slash with 10 hits including one triple. Rosario only struck out three times while driving in four runs while compiling at 133 WRC+. The following 13 games have not gone as well.

Amed Rosario is slashing .125/.208/.167, that combines for a very unimpressive .374 OPS, 12 strikeouts, and a WRC+ of just 15 since April 15th. While the recent hand injury could have contributed to his recent struggles, this is more than a game or two trend. Rosario was the recipient of some serious BABIP luck going from .400 to .167.

Of course quadrupling strikeouts in about twice as many games and seeing batting average on balls in play drop 233 points is not a recipe for success. In fact combined it has led to Amed Rosario have his WRC+ crater by 118 points. The reality is that Rosario is not the player he showed through six games and not the player he has been over the last 13, he is somewhere in the middle. The streakiness Rosario has at the plate only makes things a bit frustrating when trying to plug and play middle infielders as the Guardians are evaluating and transitioning on the fly. Perhaps a Rosario hot streak combined with a team in need of a shortstop could result as a benefit for both parties.
