Cleveland Baseball Club President Chris Antonetti said that there is “No opportunity” for Zach Plesac at this moment in time.
Shortly after the news broke that Mike Clevinger will be starting Wednesday for Cleveland, the status of Zach Plesac became known. Cleveland Baseball Club president Chris Antonetti stated that he told Plesac that there is not an opportunity at this time.
Jared Carrabis of Barstool Sports rightly called B.S. on this wanting to know the real reason.
Carrabis is mostly right. Plesac would have the second-lowest ERA and lowest WHIP in Cleveland’s rotation if he was on the roster (this does exclude Triston McKenzie and his one start).
Reading between the lines here it seems that the words “at this time” are the focus. This has led to speculation about a potential deal of Clevinger which would open up a spot in the rotation. Honestly the team should deal both. The offense is absolutely embarrassing and it doesn’t matter how good their pitching staff is if they can’t score runs consistently. Trading both would be a way for Cleveland to add to their offense for now and the future. Keeping the roster as-is will only result in an early playoff exit.
