Nick Chubb

Nick Chubb is performing at a high level

When the year began Nick Chubb was buried on the depth chart. After a trade of Carlos Hyde, some coaching changes and ample playing time, Nick Chubb is performing at a high level.

From Week 1 through Week 6 Nick Chubb only carried the ball a combined 16 times. Excluding his three rush 105-yard performance against Oakland, Chubb only managed 68 yards in five games. This is hardly the production expected from Chubb coming out of Georgia.

After the Browns sent Carlos Hyde to Jacksonville playing time became available and Chubb took advantage. Since the trade Chubb has rushed 78 times for 406 yards in four games. This averages out to 19.5 rushes and 101.5 yards per game.

In the four games that Chubb has seen increased playing time he has taken over as the teams leading rusher. Chubb’s 406 yards in the last four games is 24 more yards than Hyde rushed for in six games. Chubb is showing he is a more dynamic playmaker than Hyde. Chubb’s three touchdown runs of 40 yards or more shows just that. In fact Chubb is the first player to do so since Adrian Peterson in 2015.

Chubb should be able to produce similar results for the remainder of the season. With three games against some of the leagues worst rushing defenses, Chubb should have a field day. Two of the matchups are against Cincinnati, the other is against Denver. However the games against Baltimore, Houston and Carolina should provide a tougher test. Each of these teams are in the Top 10 in rushing defense. However it is worth noting that Chubb rushed for 65 yards on 18 carries against Pittsburgh, the number four team in rushing defense. Additionally it must be mentioned that Hue Jackson was still in charge and the offense has played better since his dismissal.

The Cleveland Browns certainly nailed the pick of Nick Chubb in the 2018 NFL Draft. Chubb’s play since receiving more playing time has proved that.
