Monsters win second straight over Senators

The Cleveland Monsters managed to win their second consecutive game against the Belleville Senators in as many days.

Make that two straight wins for the Cleveland Monsters over the Belleville Senators. Just one day removed from defeating Belleville 4-0, Cleveland followed up that performance with a close 2-1 win.

Finding themselves down 1-0 in the 2nd period, it was Jake Christiansen who got the Monsters on board with his second goal of the campaign. Adam Helewka (3) and Tyler Sikura (2) were credited with assists on the goal.

Sikura, having assisted earlier, managed to scored his second goal of the season with just four seconds left in the 2nd period. This time it was Christiansen assisting Sikura along with Tyler Angle registering his sixth assist. Sikura’s goal was of the power play variety and Cleveland’s only power play goal of the contest as they were 1-3 on the night.

Jet Greaves got the start in goal just a few days after being recalled from the East Coast Hockey League. In his first game of AHL action Greaves saved 40 of 41 shots en route to the victory. With the high volume of shots faced and the fact Greaves only allowed one to get past him, it was a pretty impressive debut for the 20-year old netminder.

The Monsters are still being Utica and Laval in the AHL North Division even though they all have six points on the year. Cleveland takes on the Toronto Marlies Sunday at 4:00 P.M. on the final game of the Canadian portion of their road trip. Perhaps some things go their way resulting in Cleveland sitting atop the division.
