Indians tie Reds again in Arizona

The Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati Reds managed to tie yet again during their Spring Training game in Goodyear, Arizona.

It is another tie for the Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati Reds. Mirroring their first Spring Training game both clubs managed to tie for the second time this spring. Monday’s final score found both teams finishing with five runs.

Cincinnati raced out to an early 3-0 lead courtesy of a Scooter Gennett two-run double and a Yasiel Puig home run. Ryan Flaherty would answer for the Indians with a solo shot of his own. Matt Kemp responded with a two-run home run of his own to make it 5-1 Cincinnati. Cleveland rallied by way of a Brandon Barnes single, a Jordan Luplow groundout and a two-run home run from Eric Haase.

Jose Ramirez went 2-3 on the day before being replaced by Max Moroff. Leonys Martin and Carlos Santana both went 1-3 in the contest. Oscar Mercado, Hanley Ramirez, Brandon Barnes, Trayce Thompson and Ryan Flaherty all went 1-2.

Jason Kipnis, Tyler Naquin, Jake Bauers, Jordan Luplow, Roberto Perez and Kevin Plawecki were all hitless.

Corey Kluber started his first Spring Training game. Kluber went 3.2 innings, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out four. While this was a bit of a rough start for Kluber, things should improve as Spring Training progresses.

Mike Clevinger followed Kluber, allowing two runs on two hits in 2.2 innings of work. Clevinger also struck out five batters in his brief stint on the mound.

Alex Wilson, Adam Cimber and Brad Hand handled the final 2.2 innings of the game. This trio combined to only allow two hits and struck out one batter. The back end of the bullpen appears to be rounding into shape as the regular season nears.

Cleveland has an off day Tuesday before playing two split-squad games Wednesday. Both games are at 4:05 P.M. and they will take on the Kansas City Royals and Milwaukee Brewers.
