The Cleveland Indians only managed four hits and were held scoreless yet again this spring in their 2-0 loss against the San Francisco Giants.
The Cleveland Indians were held to only four hits in their 2-0 Spring Training loss to the San Francisco Giants. While it is only spring, it is becoming a troubling trend. This was the third shoutout of the past week for the Tribe. If this was the regular season there would be greater cause for concern, but for now things can be taken a bit less lightly.
Of the members of the starting lineup Carlos Santana and Jake Bauers had three of the Indians four hits. Santana went 2-3 while Bauers went 1-2. Cleveland’s other hit came from Tim Fedorowicz.
Leonys Martin, Jason Kipnis, Jose Ramirez, Tyler Naquin and Hanley Ramirez all went 0-3 on the day. Greg Allen, Ernie Clement, Daniel Johnson and Mike Papi all went 0-1. The Indians only drew one walk on the day and that came from Kevin Plawecki.
Indians pitching was much better than their hitting
The Indians pitching staff performed relatively well. Only allowing six hits and striking out 12 batters in the contest. While they only allowed two runs on the day, that was too much for the overmatched Cleveland hitters.
Jefry Rodriguez allowed one hit one run and struck out two batters in two innings of work. Brad Hand came on in the third and struck out two batters in his only innings of the day. Alex Wilson followed, allowing two this and striking out two in the fourth inning. Pitching the fifth was Neil Ramirez, who allowed one hit and struck out one batter. Dan Otero struck out all three batters he faced in the sixth inning. Tyler Olson allowed one run off of two hits in the eighth inning. Cody Anderson pitched the final two innings of the game. Anderson did not allow a hit and struck out three batters.
While the result was not exactly what they were looking for, they can rebound Saturday as they face the Colorado Rockies at 3:05 P.M.
