The Cleveland Browns have placed an origninal round tender (fifth round) on restricted free agent wide receiver Rashard Higgins.
In a not so surprising move the Cleveland Browns have tendered wide receiver Rashard Higgins. An original round tender has been placed on the restricted free agent.
The important thing to remember is that Higgins is a restricted free agent, which means the Browns can match any offer sheet that is signed. That is key in this situation considering that Cleveland should want to ensure Baker Mayfield has enough weapons.
While other teams may be interested in Higgins, they may be scared off a bit. Higgins struggled until this season and some thought he could be disposable before his breakout campaign. Higgins caught 39 passes for 572 yards and four touchdowns in 2018. The third-year receiver became a favorite target of Baker Mayfield and the duo were able to connect quite often.
The Browns are apparently interested in other targets on the free agent market but should take care of their own first. Keeping Baker Mayfield’s go-to target would be a great move. Mayfield’s play is what drove the Browns last season and part of that had to do with Rashard Higgins. The chemistry between the two is undeniable and Mayfield would look Higgins’ way often.
It seems that the only way that the Browns will not keep Higgins in town is if a large contract was signed with another team. While keeping favorite targets of their franchise quarterback, there is limits to just how much a team will spend in that department. If it is too much, it is too much. That is just how it works.
Signing Rashard Higgins to a longer deal would be a great move by John Dorsey. The Cleveland Browns need to ensure Baker Mayfield has all the targets he needs and Rashard Higgins appears to be one of his favorites.
