Indians erupt for 11 runs in victory over Chicago

After being shutout twice in three days, the Cleveland Indians were able to score 11 runs in their victory over the Chicago White Sox.

The Cleveland Indians were able to compile 12 hits in Tuesday’s 11-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox. While most of the damage came later in the game, it is a good sign to see the team bounce back after being shutout in Monday’s loss to San Diego.

Leonys Martin got things started with a two-run shot in the third inning. Martin would go 1-3 on the day as he continues his torrid spring. This is rather encouraging due to the health issues Martin experienced last season that cut his year short. Carlos Santana added a solo home run in the sixth inning to make it 3-0. After this the Indians turned to their bench and would score eight more runs.

Brandon Barnes drove in the first run of the seventh inning with an RBI single. Yu Chang would also drive in a run with a single. Bobby Bradley was credited with an RBI on a groundout. Dioner Navarro would drive in two runs to finish off the five run inning.

The Indians did not scoring in the seventh as they added their final three runs of the game in the eighth inning. Oscar Mercado drove in a run with a single. Chang added another run with a sacrifice fly. Bradley also got another RBI via the sac fly.

Indians pitching staff shut down the White Sox

Adam Plutko got the start and went 3.2 innings, allowing one hit and striking out three. Ben Taylor relieved Plutko, but only for one third of an inning. Taylor finished off the fourth and was done for the day. The next three innings were handled by the trio of Brad Hand, Alex Wilson and Neil Ramirez. They allowed one hit and struck out four batters during their three innings of work. Tyler Olson pitched the eighth inning and allowed two hits, but none would score. Josh Smith took over for the final frame, allowing one hit and struck one batter.

Cleveland takes on the Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday night at 9:05 P.M.
