Harrison Bryant drafted by Browns in Round 4

The Cleveland Browns have selected Florida Atlantic University tight end Harrison Bryant with the 115th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

One thing that everyone knew about Kevin Stefanski when he became the head coach of the Cleveland Browns is that he likes tight ends. When there was an opportunity in Round 4, Cleveland jumped on it selecting FAU tight end Harrison Bryant.

Bryant is a John Mackey Award winner, the first tight end from the Group of Five to do so. Bryant has been very productive during his time at FAU and should be a welcome addition to the tight end group for the Browns.

What does this mean for others on the roster?

Once the pick was made everyone started to question the future of David Njoku, the former first rounder who has not lived up to expectations. A player selected based off of promise, potential, room for development, but has not been impressive. Njoku can’t block, can’t catch, can’t really do anything that a tight end is supposed to do. The selection of Harrison Bryant should put Njoku squarely on the hot seat.

Cleveland needs to make a decision on his future with the team and adding a tight end in the draft after signing Austin Hooper in the offseason clearly indicates where he stands in the organization.

Apparently the Browns say that is not the case.

Cleveland could have opted to select a defensive player, but they didn’t. There were defensive players that were selected after Bryant that Cleveland could have used to help provide some depth.

The selection of Harrison Bryant should be a statement on the status of David Njoku. Either the Browns are lying about the impact of Bryant on Njoku or they should have used the pick on a different position. Hopefully it turns out to be the former and not the latter.
