Guardians minority ownership sale approved

After months of anticipation the Cleveland Guardians minority ownership sale has been approved by Major League Baseball.

The deal still has to close, but when it does David Blitzer will have a 25-30% stake in the team. In time Blitzer can take control of the club.

This comes at a great time for the Guardians. It was very apparent that after John Sherman sold his minority stake to buy the Kansas City Royals that they needed help. As expected, payroll was cut back and the search for a new minority investor began. With Blitzer coming into the mix it gives the Guardians an eventual new majority owner, something that is very much needed.

Currently the Guardians are performing above expectations putting themselves in a position to be relevant in postseason talks this summer. This means that they are going to need additional financial resources to facilitate certain deals required to improve the team. The Dolans alone were not going to be able to take on money this year and in the future as the team is certain to be more active in free agent talks following the season. Taking the step from free agent afterthought to actual potential destination for most players will make a massive difference moving forward.
