Guardians knock around trash person, gets DFA’d

The Cleveland Guardians found themselves matched up against a Red Sox pitcher who was recently shown to have some unpopular opinions and appeared as a genuinely hateful person in Matt Dermody. Cleveland gave him a rude awakening Thursday night as they scored three runs on four hits and one walk. All three runs against Dermody were driven in by Jose Ramirez, who ended up homering three times in the contest (two against Dermody). The end result? Dermody was designated for assignment by the Red Sox following the conclusion of the game.

It will be hard to imagine that Dermody will pitch again in the big leagues following the work of the Guardians bats Thursday. Dermody has pitched relatively infrequently the past few seasons and that is before acknowledging the fact he has shown his true colors (or lack thereof) online.

Karma has a funny way of working sometimes. When someone publicly shows just how terrible of a person they are and it comes back like this it is not exactly heartbreaking. Dermody was always someone likely to get come up for one appearance and get designated for assignment. But the events playing out the way they did and the end result being what it was, it just a bit sweeter seeing someone who has shown to have no redeeming qualities be discarded like yesterday’s trash. Good riddance.
