Despite some rather prominent trade rumors involving Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland, the team does not intend to move him according to reports.
All of this really comes at the peak point of silly season in the NBA. Free agency is right about to begin and certain individuals need something to talk about. This is not even the first time a member of the Cavs has popped in trade rumors. The Pelicans reached out to the Cavs about Jarrett Allen, but the team has rejected all trade offers up to this point.
Trades will happen and the Cavs may even shake up their roster a bit, but that does not mean a trade of Garland or any other franchise cornerstone type player.
This is a clear lose-lose situation. If the Cavs actually had a genuine conversation about trading Darius Garland and it got back to him the ramifications could massive. There have been instances in the past when a player hears that he is being discussed and nothing good comes from it. What starts off as a hypothetical scenario quickly turns into a trade request by the player. With where the Cavs are currently and where their current trajectory has them going, this a misstep they cannot afford.
