Cleveland non-tenders DeShields, Rodriguez

The Cleveland Baseball Club has decided to non-tender two additional players.

In addition to Tyler Naquin, Delino DeShields and Jefry Rodriguez have been non-tendered by the Cleveland Baseball Club.

Just like with Tyler Naquin, moving on from Delino DeShields clears up the logjam in the outfield. It also is the departure of one half of the return in the Corey Kluber trade prior to last season. The other half is Emmanuel Clase who suffered an injury and was subsequently suspended for a PED violation. In the end, DeShields played more than what he should have as he is nothing more than a fourth/reserve outfielder.

The decision to non-tender Jefry Rodriguez makes a bit of sense. Rodriguez did not appear in a game for Cleveland in 2020 and with their pitching depth he really did not have a place in the organization. The club has plenty of other pitching options who have shown more promise than Rodriguez has during is brief MLB stints.
