Round 1 a new experience for Browns

Round one of the 2022 NFL Draft presented an unusual set of circumstances for the Cleveland Browns fans. Their perennial search for an answer at the quarterback position is not taking center stage. Instead it is other teams wading the waters of a draft class that is considered weak with a very down quarterback class. While hyperbole is the word used to describe this pattern year in and year out, it is quite accurate this time around. There is not a surefire quarterback going first overall as the Jacksonville Jaguars opted for defensive help in Travon Walker. As Kenny Pickett has been selected and Malik Willis is still waiting for his name to be called one thing is for certain, Cleveland will not be making the call this year.  The Browns instead made the trade to acquire Deshaun Watson ...

Baker Mayfield landing spots developing?

The moment that the Carolina Panthers selected offensive lineman Ickey Ekwonu sixth overall the rumor mill went into motion focusing on Baker Mayfield. Carolina has been rumored on and off to be interested in the services of Mayfield and this first round selection only propelled them further.  The Panthers do not have another pick until the 137th overall selection, preventing them from selecting any of the quarterbacks of note in this draft. With Sam Darnold on his fifth-year option their defacto starter, perhaps this could propel the Panthers to make a move for Mayfield. Mayfield and Darnold have both been disappointments which led to the franchises that drafted them moving on before their rookie deals were up. Carolina has stated that previously that a trade for Mayfield would not ha...

Browns draft options after the first round

The Cleveland Browns enter days two and three of the NFL Draft with some pretty clear needs that need to be addressed. At this moment in time they are still interested in bringing back Jarvis Landry and Jadeveon Clowney, but they must operate if their returns are not on the table. This puts defensive line and wide receiver at the forefront of team needs.  With the run on receiver in round one it may be a bit tough for Cleveland to get one of the options they were hoping for when their turn came around in round two. That’s not a reason to panic as they still have Landry as an option in free agency. In regards to the draft they must compare their draft boards (horizontal and vertical) with who is still available. If there is a receiver available that was slotted as an option at 44 (...

Denzel Ward, Browns agree to extension

The Cleveland Browns have done it again, this time by signing cornerback Denzel Ward to a five-year contract extension. Ward's deal is worth just over $100 million with $71+ million guaranteed. https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/1516120777183088645?s=20&t=NNAy3Z8-IKqDug1SNErCwg Denzel Ward has been one of the best cornerbacks in the league since being drafted by the Browns in 2018. Ward's 53.5% completion percentage allowed is third-lowest just behind Stephon Gilmore and Xavien Howard. https://twitter.com/Jake_Trotter/status/1516124185130582035?s=20&t=NNAy3Z8-IKqDug1SNErCwg Cleveland is locking up key foundational pieces to ensure that they remain in town during what should be their contention window. Not too bad for the 18th ranked NFL GM now is it?

Browns still in the mix for Jarvis Landry

A return to Cleveland is still possible for Jarvis Landry. The Browns are still "in the mix" for the free agent receiver. https://twitter.com/StainbrookNFL/status/1513889755372654602?s=20&t=UZ83A7Wprvb-1kPP36ypvg Brad Stainbrook later added that they are "a top team" and that Landry wants to sign somewhere before the draft. If the Browns could agree to terms on a reunion with Jarvis Landry it would be the cherry on top of their offensive overhaul. Cleveland has already upgraded their quarterback room with the additions of Deshaun Watson and Jacoby Brissett. Amari Cooper was acquired from Dallas for basically nothing. Bringing back Landry in a position to explore every option available to them in the draft rather than being a spot where a wide receiver must be taken early. F...

Ronnie Harrison re-signs with Cleveland

A familiar face will remain in the secondary of the Cleveland Browns as Ronnie Harrison has singed a one-year deal. https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/1512535963620237312?s=20&t=1walZB7sNtVG1P1clqHAoQ As the offseason began it was unlikely that Ronnie Harrison would be back in Cleveland. The Browns currently have John Johnson and Grant Delpit as their starting safeties. Harrison would be fighting for playing time if he stayed in Cleveland. With the free agent market drying up, returning to Cleveland for one more year to build value was a wise move for Harrison. Coming to Cleveland from Jacksonville via trade prior to the 2020 season, Harrison has appeared in 23 games (18 starts) with 96 tackles, 10 pass defenses, two interceptions, two sacks, and one fumble recovery. ...

Browns sign Josh Dobbs

The Cleveland Browns quarterback room features Deshaun Watson, Jacoby Brissett, the soon to be gone Baker Mayfield, and now Josh Dobbs. Dobbs signed a one-year deal with the Browns Friday. https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/1512569932143341576?s=20&t=1walZB7sNtVG1P1clqHAoQ Dobbs decided to have some fun with the situation as he is in a Steelers uniform in his Twitter profile picture currently. https://twitter.com/josh_dobbs1/status/1512573581280043020?s=20&t=1walZB7sNtVG1P1clqHAoQ Josh Dobbs is slated to be the third quarterback in Cleveland once the whole Mayfield situation comes to a close. Dobbs has appeared in six career games with Pittsburgh, completing 10 of 17 passes for 45 yards and one interception while rushing for 31 yards on six carries.

Browns host tight end Greg Dulcich

The Cleveland Browns are reportedly hosting UCLA tight end Greg Dulcich on a Top-30 visit according to Pro Football Network. In four years at UCLA, Dulcich caught 77 passes for 1,353 yards and 11 touchdowns. The last two seasons were most productive as Dulcich finished his sophomore campaign with 26 receptions for 517 yards and five touchdowns. It was his junior season which saw Dulcich take a leap, registering 42 catchers for 725 yards and five touchdowns. The fit in Cleveland, should the Browns draft Greg Dulcich is an interesting one. The team moved on from Austin Hooper leaving David Njoku and Harrison Bryant as their current tight ends. Njoku, the former first round pick, still has not lived up to his draft status while Bryant has shown signs of promise as mid-round selection...

Browns sign Corey Bojorquez

The Cleveland Browns have signed free agent punter Corey Bojorquez. Bojorquez was with the Green Bay Packers last season. https://twitter.com/Jake_Trotter/status/1510991119307390982?s=20&t=EiM6e4P1jl8ukMm3dxKdZQ Cleveland moved on from Jamie Gillan during last season and opted for 39-year old Dustin Colquitt for the final five games. The Browns were always goin to bring in a punter of some sort and they could bring in another due to the volatility of the position.

What free agency grade did B/R give the Browns?

Bleacher Report released their consensus grades for NFL teams in free agency and they were not particularly kind to the Cleveland Browns. Considering that two of their most impactful additions have come via trade this is hardly surprising (Deshaun Watson, Amari Cooper). A trade for Chase Winovich provides some defensive line depth, but again not a free agent signing. What was the grade? The Cleveland Browns received a consensus grade of D+ from three NFL writers at Bleacher Report. Cleveland's free agency activity has been quite minimal as they appear to be waiting out the market. This strategy has been used by Cleveland before, but there were deals on the first day of the tampering period for starters the previous two years. That has not happened this year. The flashiest signin...
