Browns trade up to take Becton in mock

The post combine mock draft from Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports is quite interesting. Trapasso has the Cleveland Browns trading up to eight in order to select Louisville tackle Mekhi Becton.

Here is the reasoning behind the trade up and the selection.

Given Becton’s insane athleticism at his size at the left tackle spot, he’s a perfect fit in Kevin Stefanski’s zone-blocking run scheme, and the Browns can’t afford for him to go one pick ahead of them to the Jaguars. Cleveland only has to move No. 105 overall (fourth round) to move up two spots.

Going to have to disagree a bit here. Trading up doesn’t seem to be the style of this particular regime. At least trading up from 10. Trading up from this particular spot doesn’t seem all that likely. A trade down seems almost destined to happen. In this scenario it does even more so given the players taken ahead of the Browns.

In regards to Becton, some view him as a good fit in Cleveland while others do not. He’s big and athletic, and that’s very appealing. However his technique and form need a lot of work. The Browns can not afford to become blinded by the size and athleticism of the prospect. They need to study his body of work and what he can and cannot do. There may be better directions for the Cleveland Browns to go in.

Matt Miller had Cleveland selecting Tristan Wirfs in his latest mock.

Daniel Jeremiah has the Browns selecting Andrew Thomas.
