Browns release Adarius Taylor

The Cleveland Browns have released six-year veteran linebacker Adarius Taylor in a move that will save the team just over $2.4 million.

Roster moves from the new front office were bound to begin sooner or later. The Cleveland Browns will be releasing linebacker Adarius Taylor per Mary Kay Kabot of Cleveland.com.

This is not just a money saving move (Cleveland saves over $2.4 million with Taylor’s release). This is about identifying building blocks for the team. Adarius Taylor was not someone who was integral to the future of the franchise. Taylor did not play all that much and only registered a single tackle in his one year in Cleveland. Taylor mostly played on special teams, with the Browns, leading to his career-low one tackle. In contrast, Taylor had a career-high 60 total tackles while starting 10 games in 2018 with Tampa Bay. Taylor’s 2017 campaign with the Buccaneers was also significantly better, with 31 total tackles in 14 games (four starts).

For the fans of Pro Football Focus, Adarius Taylor graded out at 41.7, which translates to “poor”. What this means at the end of the day is that he is replaceable.

Cleveland has other linebackers on the roster to worry about at this moment in time. Attempting to re-sign Joe Schobert and figuring out just exactly what they’re doing with Christian Kirskey. Add in other linebackers on the roster and Taylor was the clear odd man out.

The Browns will look to address the vacancy created by releasing Adarius Taylor through free agency and the draft.
