The Cleveland Browns continue their quest towards alignment by hiriing former Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Chad O’Shea as thier receivers coach.
Cleveland may still be looking for a general manager and offensive coordinator, but they have their receivers coach. The Browns are hiring Chad O’Shea to fill the position previously filled by Adam Henry.
Chad O’Shea spent last season in Miami as their offensive coordinator. Prior to that, O’Shea was with Kevin Stefanski in Minnesota for three seasons before spending 2009-2018 in New England as their receivers coach.
There is obviously that connection between O’Shea and Stefanski that led to the hire. Cleveland is seeking alignment and that appears to be the road they are heading down.
Chad O’Shea has worked with an impressive list of receivers while with the Patriots. Randy Moss, Wes Welker, and Julian Edelman are the highlights of the group. O’Shea certainly has the experience to coach the Browns receivers that include Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry.
In regards to O’Shea, it is not about his track record. It is about how the receivers respond to him. The former receivers coach had a preexisting relationship with Beckham and Landry. While it did help in some regards, it did not help in others. Some of that can be blamed on the nonsensical game plans and strategy from Freddie Kitchens and non-stop dysfunction in the locker room.
The only question is whether or not Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry are on the roster when the season begins. Beckham may have already rubbed the new regime the wrong way and Landry is someone who has been targeted by many as someone the Browns could move on from due to his contract. Just what the receiver room will look like when the season starts is an absolute mystery.
