Browns GM search becoming a bit more clear

The Cleveland Browns have narrowed down thier options and have interviews scheduled with three candidates for their vacant general manager position.

Monti Ossenfort, Andrew Berry, and George Paton. These appear to be the Cleveland Browns final choices to be their next general manager. Ian Rapoport reported that Cleveland has two interviews scheduled for Friday and the other is tentatively scheduled for this weekend.

George Paton finally accepted an interview with the Browns. This came as a bit of a surprise considering he has declined Cleveland’s request in the past. The tentativeness of his interview could be dependent on the outcomes of the interviews with Monti Ossenfort and Andrew Berry.

Andrew Berry is familiar with Cleveland, having spent time with the Browns previously. That could work to the advantage and disadvantage of the Browns at the same time. Berry knows exactly how everything works in the building. That includes dysfunction. This could possibly prevent Berry from taking the job if offered. The Browns are not the only team interested in Berry. Carolina still wants to interview Berry, but there are conditions for Philadelphia to grant them an interview.

Cleveland and their next general manager will have a lot of difficult decisions to make when putting together the roster. From getting rid of various “football guys” that do not fit their vision to dealing with off the field issues. Finding the proper balance between talent and cost that fits their ideal model will be crucial to their success.
