Browns draft Tristan Wirfs in latest mock draft

CBS Sports draft analyst Josh Edwards has the Cleveland Browns taking Iowa’s Tristan Wirfs with the 10th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

This mock draft from Josh Edwards is a little less earth shattering than Will Brinson’s from yesterday. The Cleveland Browns only have one pick and this draft compared to the two in Brinson’s. Maybe Cleveland bringing Ryan Grigson back into the mix kept Edwards from going down a similar road.

The Browns select Iowa’s Tristan Wirfs with the 10th overall pick. Wirfs is the third tackle taken in the Top 10. Jedrick Wills Jr. goes to the New York Giants at four and Andrew Thomas goes to the Arizona Cardinals at nine. New York’s other team (the Jets) select Mekhi Becton just one pick after Cleveland at 11. Two more tackles are taken in the first round. Josh Jones goes to Jacksonville at 20th overall and Tyler Biadasz is selected by the Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs with the 32nd pick.

The decision to mock a tackle is pretty easy to understand. One thing was glaringly obvious when watching the Cleveland Browns last season. Their offensive tackles stink. Greg Robinson and Chris Hubbard were both atrocious. Although some will argue for some strange reason that they “were not that bad”. Any metric or data that leads to this conclusion needs to be thrown out immediately because it is obviously flawed.

Cleveland needs two new offensive tackles. The first round of the draft is one avenue to acquire one. The Browns could also draft another later in the draft while exploring the free agent pool for a bargain bin veteran. That veteran would not be a long term option, just someone to help guide the young rookies and fill in if necessary.
