Browns acquire Wyatt Teller from Bills

The Cleveland Browns have acquire guard Wyatt Teller from the Buffalo Bills in an effort to improve their offensive line.

You knew it was coming. The Cleveland Browns needed to address their offensive line as soon as possible. Cleveland struck a deal with the Buffalo Bills Thursday acquiring guard Wyatt Teller in a trade. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news.

In addition to acquiring Teller, Cleveland also receives Buffalo’s 2021 7th round pick. Buffalo receives Cleveland’s 5th and 6th round pick in 2020.

Wyatt Teller may be in the mix for the starting right guard position. Right guard has been a position that has been in flux all offseason. Austin Corbett may not be on the team much longer. Corbett was a second round pick last year and so far looks like John Dorsey’s first miss high in the draft. A miss that is hard to fault Dorsey for considering how the rest of that draft worked out.

Eric Kush was signed in the offseason but it is hard to believe that Cleveland would go out and acquire someone who plays his position now if he was seriously being considered as a starter.

Given the fact that Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck retired abruptly earlier this week, that could have made an impact in the Browns front office. Cleveland cannot put Baker Mayfield in a situation similar to the one Luck had in Indy. The Browns need to protect Baker Mayfield at all costs and avoid any unnecessary injures that could result with inferior line play. Wyatt Teller could be the first move that Cleveland makes in an effort to ensure that their offensive line is at least average. Before this trade was made that could not be said about the Browns offensive line group. Improving this unit was a must and may continue to be the focus between now and Game 1.
