Baker Mayfield not doing himself any favors

The Cleveland Browns quarterback could not help himself when it came to his overaggressiveness on the Internet.

File this under very much expected series of events. After Mary Kay Cabot reported a rift between the Cleveland Browns and Baker Mayfield, everything unfolded in a very predictable manner with the quarterback.

Baker Mayfield quote tweeted her story in an attacking fashion and was overaggressive for no reason.

While many were trying to paint this as defending himself, this is not the case. Defending himself would include solely speaking about his part of the story not going out and attacking the integrity of Cabot. Mayfield could have gotten his point across without going after the reporter of the story and he chose not to.

This course of action will not do Baker Mayfield any favors as he is still looking for a second contract, if not in Cleveland then elsewhere. Acting like a child on the Internet will not help his value in contract discussions with Cleveland or any other team for that manner despite how likable he appears in the countless Progressive commercials we have all seen. But again, this is year four of the Mayfield experience when it comes to how online he is so this is hardly a surprising development. Mayfield is not that far removed from his very public battles with his foe emeritus Colin Cowherd.

Thanks to the actions of Baker Mayfield, several quarterbacks of Browns past decided to resurface like the Avengers assembling via portals in Endgame.

Brandon Weeden, Deshone Kizer, and Derek Anderson all decided to chime in on this matter, voicing their own distaste for Cleveland media.

The fact of the matter is that shortcomings of every player named here (Mayfield included) is not the fault of the local media. It is cute that they have all collectively decided to blame others, but they played the largest role in their own failures.
