The Cleveland Browns will reportedly explore left tackle options in Washington’s Trent Williams and free agent Jason Peters.
As soon as the news popped up connections to the Cleveland Browns were made. Rumors and reports surfaced that Cleveland will look into the options of Jason Peters and Trent Williams per Mary Kay Cabot.
The Washington Redskins have given Trent Williams permission to work out a trade. Williams was someone who could have been of interest to Cleveland last season as it was quite clear that he would not play for the Redskins again. With limited options available and a clear need, Cleveland could have added him at that time if a trade could have been facilitated. Now that plenty of options exist, Williams should not be a priority. Washington will be looking for a good draft pick and Williams will want a new, expensive deal. This should cross him off the Browns list of targets almost immediately.
Jason Peters is now a free agent after spending the past 11 years in Philadelphia. Now 38, Peters will draw interest from teams looking for a short term option. Cleveland should look in the other direction here. Peters will require an expensive contract and with his advanced age could experience a drop-off in performance sooner rather than later. There are options available in the draft for Cleveland to consider that will be both younger and less expensive. Peters is not going to come take a “team friendly” deal to come to Cleveland. Consider most other options before tricking yourself into believing this fallacy.
