Cavaliers locked into play-in tournament

The Cleveland Cavaliers have officially clinched a spot in the play-in tournament. This comes following their loss Tuesday night which prevented any chance of finishing in sixth place in the Eastern Conference.

Making the postseason for the first time without LeBron James since the 1997-98 season, this is a massive step forward for the franchise. The Cavs are emerging from the basement of the NBA with their young foundation looking to establish themselves. Before the season started most expected the team to struggle again and finish in the high 20’s in the wins department. With a winning record and a play-in spot secured, they have exceeded expectations.

While there was a time when the Cavaliers were towards the top of the standings in the east, a playoff not play-in spot seemed possible. A combination of injuries and a conference wide standings correction, the Cavs found themselves out of the actual playoffs (at this time). Even though they are relegated to the play-in tournament, this season is still a success no matter how the postseason plays out.
