The Cleveland Baseball Club has agreed to terms with free agent pitcher Brad Peacock on a minor league deal and has been assigned to Triple-A

Finding themselves in need of pitching, the Cleveland Baseball Club has agreed to a minor league deal with free agent pitcher Brad Peacock. The team subsequently assigned Peacock to Triple-A Columbus.

Brad Peacock has spent the majority of his career with the Houston Astros, compiling a 4.08 ERA, 1.307 WHIP, and 9.7 K/9. Peacock only appeared in three games last season for Houston, allowing two runs in just 2.1 innings.

Cleveland has found themselves in need of bodies to eat innings due to multiple injuries in their rotation. While it remains to be seen if Peacock will end up making the big league club, it would not be entirely surprising if that was the case at some point in the near future.

Cavs exploring trade options for Collin Sexton

The Cleveland Cavaliers have reportedly begun to explore their trade options for guard Collin Sexton.

The trade chatter surrounding the Cleveland Cavaliers and Collin Sexton is only getting louder. It was just a few days ago that two separate radio stations in Cleveland had two different people suggesting that a trade is possible. Now another report has surfaced with the wheels now appearing to be in motion.

Jeremy Woo of SI is reporting that the Cleveland Cavaliers are in the early stages of exploring a trade of Collin Sexton. Woo had the following to say.

According to league sources, the Cavaliers have begun to explore trade options involving leading scorer Collin Sexton. Sexton, 22, is extension-eligible this summer, averaged 24.3 points per game last season, and appears likely to seek a maximum contract. Also eligible for an extension is 23-year-old center Jarrett Allen, who is also expected to command a lucrative deal from Cleveland. There’s belief around the league that Cleveland prefers to move on from Sexton, rather than sign him to a deal that would greatly inhibit their flexibility moving forward. The Cavs hold the No. 3 pick in the draft, and could end up selecting another guard, which could further expedite the process of a trade.

Jeremy Woo on the Cavs and a possible Collin Sexton trade

This is not necessarily all that surprising considering the Cavs have the third overall pick in the upcoming draft and could use that to draft his replacement. There have been questions about the actually fit with Collin Sexton and others on the roster, mainly Darius Garland. Garland is more of a traditional point guard while Sexton is a scoring guard. The fact both are in the starting lineup is the issue considering Sexton would be a much better option off the bench. If Cleveland could somehow convince Sexton to take a role off the bench it may work, but a possible pricey contract extension may throw a wrench in this idea.

The Cavs would be foolish to hand Collin Sexton a large extension to begin with, but if he was a bench player it would be worse. While paying valuable bench players is fine for competitive teams, the Cavs are not anywhere close to being that at the current moment. Paying a bench player a high salary would continue the lack of direction the team has had for the past few seasons. Cleveland needs to avoid any type of decision which would lead to continuing to spin the tires and not move forward. That may mean moving on from Collin Sexton, which appears to be a lot closer to actually happening than some think it is. It seems like it may be only a matter of time before the team moves on from Young Bull.

The Cleveland Baseball Club utilized a three-run 8th inning to propel themselves to a 4-1 win against the Minnesota Twins.

The ability to score runs when it matters most is a trademark of good teams. With the game tied at 1, the Cleveland Baseball Club scored three runs in the 8th to come away with a 4-1 win over the Minnesota Twins.

Minnesota and Cleveland traded runs in the 1st and 2nd innings as the Twins scored first with Cleveland answering in the next half-inning. Austin Hedges drove in Bobby Bradley to level the score when it was their turn in the 2nd. What this really showed was that both J.C. Mejia and Jose Berrios were extremely impressive Thursday night. The final pitching lines for both players were incredibly similar as Mejia allowed just one run on four hits with two walks and six strikeouts in 6 innings while Berrios allowed one run on four hits with two walks and nine strikeouts in 6.1 innings.

The difference in the game came down to the bullpen. Cleveland deployed Blake Parker, Bryan Shaw, and James Karinchak for the final 3 innings with the trio allowing just two hits. Minnesota turned to Jorge Alcala in the 8th and allowed three runs on two hits in just two-thirds of an inning. Eddie Rosario drove in Amed Rosario and Austin Hedges to give Cleveland a 3-1 lead. Bobby Bradley would follow with a RBI groundout which allowed Jose Ramirez to score.

Coming away with a win in the first of four games in Minnesota is a huge win. Cleveland is still hanging around in the AL Central as they trail the Chicago White Sox by just two games. Cleveland can draw closer with a win on Friday and the Mariners coming away with an unlikely victory in Chicago.

Game two in Minnesota will take place at 8:10 P.M. at Target Field.
