The Cleveland Baseball Club defeated the Detroit Tigers thanks to an excellent pitching performance.

If the Cleveland Baseball Club was going to come away with a win on Thursday they were going to need an excellent starting pitching performance. Lucky for them Shane Bieber was on the mound.

Bieber carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning before Detroit managed to get their first hit of the game. Bieber struck out 12 batters over seven innings while allowing just one run on one hit and walk.

Bryan Shaw would work the 8th and allowed one hit while walking one and striking out another.

James Karinchak took the 9th, allowing one run on one hit and one walk with two strikeouts. Even after the Tigers scored their second run of the game Karinchak didn’t falter as he got the final out of the game on a foul out to third.

Offensively the contributions came from Harold Ramirez and Eddie Rosario. Harold Ramirez drove in Jose Ramirez twice, in the 1st and 6th innings. Eddie Rosario would drive in Harold Ramirez twice, with a two-run homer in the 6th and an RBI double in the 9th.

Cleveland returns home to take on the Blue Jays for a three game set starting Friday.

The New York Mets have shut down the starting pitcher for six weeks after experiencing right elbow inflammation.

Some bad news for Noah Syndergaard and the New York Mets. Syndergaard has been shut down for six weeks after experiencing inflammation in his right elbow according to reports.

This is just the latest setback for Noah Syndergaard has experienced quite a few injuries in previous years, including missing all of 2020 after undergoing Tommy John surgery. The last time Noah Syndegaard saw major league action was in 2019. The pitcher known as Thor hard a 4.28 ERA, 1.234 WHIP, and 9.2 K/9 in 32 starts that season. In two rehab starts with St. Lucie, Syndergaard allowed one hit and walk while striking out six in five innings.

When/if Noah Syndergaard does return he would be a huge boost to the rotation as they still waiting for Carlos Carrasco to make his Mets debut. New York is making things work right now, but the question is for how long can they keep doing this. Some stability in their rotation would do wonders for their rotation as nine pitchers have already made starts this season.

Popcorn throwing fan deserves to be banned

A fan threw popcorn at Russell Westbrook and they should no longer be allowed to attend sporting events in person ever again.

Homer Simpson once said while attending a Springfield Isotopes game that “This ticket gives me the right, no the duty to make a complete ass of myself”. Contrary to the wisdom of Homer Simpson, the real world doesn’t work like that. This brings us to Wednesday’s playoff game between the Washington Wizards and Philadelphia 76ers. Russell Westbrook was leaving the floor after suffering an injury and a fan decided to embrace his inner Homer Simpson by dumping popcorn on the Wizards star.

This is completely unacceptable and a total scumbag move. This fan should never be allowed to attend a sporting event in any city at any stadium/arena ever again. There is a certain line that once crossed should prevent an individual from going to games again and that line was crossed Wednesday by this fan.

Russell Westbrook said that the players need to be protected after the incident and he is absolutely right.

A great way to protect the players is by making an example of this specific fan. Taking action in regards to this incident and individual can be a way to discourage others from doing something similar or worse. The reality is that there are consequences for actions in the real world. It’s about holding people accountable for doing something despicable. The privilege of attending games should no longer be an option for this fan.

Cleveland manages only four hits in 1-0 loss to Detroit

The Cleveland Baseball Club was not able to take advantage of impressive outings from their two pitchers in a shutout loss to the Tigers.

Triston McKenzie was called up to make a spot start due to injuries on the Cleveland pitching staff and he delivered. McKenzie allowed just one hit over five innings while striking out five. The only real issue was walks as McKenzie allowed three free passes in his start. This has been a recurring issue for McKenzie and one that Cleveland is hoping that he can improve sooner rather than later.

Cal Quantrill would follow McKenzie in this start and pitch three innings. Quantrill allowed just one run on two hits with four strikeouts. This was an impressive outing from Quantrill. The only problem is that one run is all Detroit needed to hand Cleveland a loss.

Cleveland managed only four hits in the game while walking five times. The combination of Cesar Hernandez, Jordan Luplow, Jose Ramirez, Harold Ramirez, Jake Bauers, and Rene Rivera went 0-17. Luplow, Jose (2), and Bauers accounting for four of the five walks.

The loss ends the possibility of Cleveland sweeping Detroit, but a series win is still possible. The fourth and final game of the series takes place Thursday at 1:10 P.M.
