23-year old pitching prospect Triston McKenzie will be make his long awaited debut for the Cleveland Baseball Club.
The Cleveland Baseball Club will have a new face in the pitching rotation this weekend. Highly regarded pitching prospect Triston McKenzie will be making his debut against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday.
Cleveland selected Triston McKenzie in the 1st round of the 2015 MLB Draft. McKenzie has spent four years in the Cleveland system, compiling a 2.68 ERA and 0.997 WHIP across all levels In his most recent season (2018) McKenzie went 7-4 with a 2.68 ERA, 1.004 WHIP, and 8.6 K/9. Unfortunately McKenzie would miss all of the 2019 season due to injury.
Other news related to this decision is that this was supposed to be the day that Zach Plesac would start if he were with the club.
The performance of McKenzie could very well determine the fate of not one, but two Cleveland pitchers. Zach Plesac and Mike Clevinger were both optioned and have not yet rejoined the team. If MeKenzie were to pitch well th team would be able to justify sending one, if not both pitchers packing. On the other hand this could be a showcase in order to deal McKenzie. Things are about to get really interesting for Cleveland with the trade deadline less than two weeks away.
