Oscar Mercado optioned to Lake County

The Cleveland Baseball Club has optioned outfielder Oscar Mercado to Lake County after struggling to start the year. The 2020 season has not been kind to Oscar Mercado. Mercado struggled from the start and has seen a decrease in playing time. This has led to the decision by the Cleveland Baseball Club to option Mercado to Lake County. https://twitter.com/MandyBell02/status/1295397737182240775?s=20 Oscar Mercado is slashing 111/.167/.111/.278 in 17 games this season. The 25-year old outfielder only has five hits, three walks, and striking out 14 times. Cleveland has seen the return of Tyler Naquin and the debut of Delino DeShields. It seems that Cleveland is looking to continue giving Naquin and DeShields playing time while mixing in the likes of Domingo Santana, Bradley Zim...

Cleveland wins second straight game over Reds

The Cleveland Baseball Club won their second straight game over the Cincinnati Reds by a score of 2-0. Cleveland got a win they desperately needed Wednesday, defeating the Cincinnati Reds 2-0 and ensuring they retain The Ohio Cup. Cleveland got another good starting pitching performance, this time from Mike Clevinger. Clevinger allowed 2 hits and struck out 4 in 5.2 innings. The only blemish was the fact that Clev issued 5 walks, this contributed to his somewhat early exit. Dominic Leone would get the final out of the 6th inning in relief of Clevinger. Oliver Perez handled the 7th and is doing everything he can to prove he is more than a one or two batter specialist. James Karinchak continued this strong start to the season. Karinchak allowed 1 hit and struck out 1 batter in h...

Oscar Mercado day-to-day with wrist injury

Cleveland Indians center fielder Oscar Mercado left Thursday’s win over the San Francisco Giants with a wrist injury. Per MLB.com’s Mandy Bell Mercado will be evaluated Friday morning at their Spring Training complex. Mercado's status is currently day-to-day.  https://twitter.com/MandyBell02/status/1235701553828225024?s=20 This should keep Oscar Mercado out of action for a few days. Mercado's roster spot is not in danger and making sure he is healthy for when the regular season begins must be the priority here. The Indians need to ensure they have their full compliment of outfielders available to them once the season starts.  If for some reason Mercado were to miss significant time the options available to them are not all that exciting. Delino DeShields and Greg...

Indians defeat San Francisco Giants 7-1

The Cleveland Indians took on the San Francisco Giants and came away with a comfortable 7-1 victory.  Hitters of note  Oscar Mercado gave the Tribe an early 2-0 lead in the 4th inning before leaving with a wrist injury.  Franmil Reyes went 1-3 and scored a run.  Cesar Hernandez was 1-1 with a double and also reached base on a walk.  Domingo Santana’s low batting average got a boost with a 1-3 day.  Bobby Bradley had two hits on the day including an RBI double in the 9th inning. Johnson could be in line for more playing time if Mercado misses some time due to his injury.  Any chance of Yu Chang making the team out of spring app...

Indians manage only 4 hits in loss to Padres

It was not a great outing for the offense of the Cleveland Indians in their 8-0 loss to the San Diego Padres in Peoria, Arizona. Four hits, four measly hits. That is all the Cleveland Indians were able to muster in their 8-0 loss to the San Diego Padres Wednesday. Hitters of note Two of the Indians three hits came off the bat of Oscar Mercado. Mercado went 2-3 on the day and had an impressive day at the plate. Franmil Reyes was the only other Cleveland starter with a hit. Reyes slugged a double off of San Diego's Chris Paddack. Unfortunately his teammates were not able to drive him in. The only other Tribe hitter to collect a hit was Bobby Bradley. Bradley came in as a replacement for Jake Bauers and singled in his lone plate appearance. (More on Bauers later). Nolan J...

Indians have a big test with Astros at home

The Houston Astros come to town and the surging Cleveland Indians will have quite the test to see just where they stand with the best teams in baseball. The Cleveland Indians have the best record in baseball dating back in the month of July (17-5). Now the criticism that many have had with that they have faced some sub-par competition. Kansas City, Cincinnati, Detroit and Toronto are hardly world beaters. The only above .500 team they have faced is Minnesota and the Tribe dropped two out of three to start the second half. While it is easy to criticize the level of competition, the best teams in baseball always beat up on weaker competition and at worst keep things even with the best in the league. Cleveland has a chance to do that starting Tuesday at home against Houston. The India...

Indians hit five doubles in win over Toronto

The Cleveland Indians collected seven extra-base hits including five doubles in their 7-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. It was a pretty good night in the extra-base hit department for the Cleveland Indians. The Tribe finished with seven total hits going to extra-bases, five of which were doubles. Oscar Mercado hit the non-doubles, a triple in the sixth and a home run in the eighth. Mercado finished the game going 2-4 with two RBI's and a walk. Carlos Santana, Roberto Perez, Tyler Naquin, Jose Ramirez and Jake Bauers all hit doubles. Perez and Ramirez both drove in runs with their doubles, each finishing with one RBI on the night. Ramirez went 2-4 as he continues to keep on hitting. Ramirez has recorded a hit in 14 of the 16 games in July. Six of these games happened to be multi-h...

Indians win Game 3 against Royals

The Cleveland Indians were able to come back to win Game 3 and their three game series with the Kansas City Royals by a score of 5-4. Zach Plesac started Game 3 for the Cleveland Indians and found himself in a bit of trouble early on. Cheslor Cuthbert game Kansas City a quick 1-0 lead after doubling to drive in Hunter Dozier. In the third inning Jorge Soler hit a solo home run to make it 2-0 Royals. Plesac proceded to shut down the Royals over the next few innings. In six innings of work Plesac allowed two runs on four hits while striking out six. Thanks to an offensive surge from the Tribe, Plesac was able to win his fourth game of the season. Cleveland scored five consecutive runs to give the Indians a 5-2 lead. Francisco Lindor hit a two-run homer to tie the game in the bottom of...

Indians win sixth straight, top Royals 10-5

The Cleveland Indians defeated the Kansas City Royals at home by a score of 10-5 en route to winning thier sixth straight game. Six straight wins is nothing to scoff at. Especially considering they are still climbing their way back up in the standings. With their 10-5 win over the Kansas City Royals, the Cleveland Indians are now only three games back of the Minnesota Twins. Shane Bieber got the start and things were a bit controversial in the first inning. A very weak balk call on Bieber allowed a run to score. The problem? It was not really a balk. Bieber settled back in for a while before a single loaded the bases in the sixth. Nick Goody was not able to get out of the inning as Whit Merrifield hit a bases clearing triple to cut the Cleveland lead at the time to just one run...
